If you support social hierarchies, either of class/caste, you are a sanghi. If you push upper middle class lifestyle as ideal and preferable, you are a sanghi. If you are clueless about how market works, and still want to blabber on and on about competition, you are a sanghi. and obviously if you love India you are a sanghi.

Its the Indian version of conservatives in the US.

yes. they do. people who live simple lives, who treat others as equals(respect overrated). Who fight for their everyday life without prejudice. People who just don't follow the crowd are not sanghis.

people who are smart and empathetic towards others. eg. Amartya Sen is not a sanghi. contributions ranging from mathematical economics, to practical work where he lived among rural poor in Bengal and an influential political philosopher.

India's young scientists and engineers (the smart ones) are more likely to be non-sanghis.

every business school major is a sanghi by default. unscientific and relying on emotion/instinct to make their decisions.

in general, new generation (including some of our generation) are like you mentioned above but same people become prejudice in special moments, when they feel like owning their group.. it can be as simple as supporting Indian team or feeling happy about an Indian winning Nobel prize.. though this simple thing seems nice and harmless, it can affect peoples minds and thus situations and can get the selfishness out of the same simple person..

I am not saying there are zero "non-sanghis" there are.. people who lived their lives for the people around them and didn't save a penny for them.. but excluding them it's hard for me to think there are common people who are non-sanghi..
