kingmakers Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 If reports from New Delhi are any indication, there was a suggestion from the armed forces to the Union government for making Hyderabad as the second national capital, in the event of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. According to sources, the Justice Srikrishna Committee had discussions with representatives of Indian army informally to seek their opinion on the bifurcation of the state.Hyderabad has been a major military cantonment and has several military establishments like college of air warfare, air force academy, CRPF southern regional command and also Indian police academy. Besides, all the defense research establishments like Midhani, DRDO, DMRL and DLRL are in Hyderabad. So, it would be better to have a second capital of the country in Hyderabad, rather than leaving it to the Telangana state.The armed forces are believed to have preferred Hyderabad, as there is a potential threat to Delhi from neighbouring countries. Delhi is within the range of nuclear attack both by Pakistan and China, in case war breaks out. Since Hyderabad is strategically located with all facilities, it would be better to have the second capital here, they suggested. The proposal is said to be under the active consideration of the Srikrishna Committee, sources said.
