We're family of 4, so business class would cost me around $12-$15k.

Less than half the price I can get economy and the rest of the money I can lavishly spend on my stays in India, hotels, restaurants, outing etc.....

Saw this old thread and couldn’t resist adding my two cents. I’ve paid out of pocket a couple of times, and the trick for me was grabbing deals during off‑season or using points to cut the cost in half. Curious if anyone here has tried mixing miles plus cash or using credit card travel portals to bring the fare down even more.

I paid out of pocket once, booked during a sale. The space, food, and sleep made the long trip easier. I’d only do it again if I find another discount.

Etihad business class out of my own pocket.

Cannot escape the feeling that the cost is too prohibitive for just one round trip. Difficult to say if it is worth  or not as it would depend on each individual's financial priorities.

I have been traveling in business class the last few years no matter wherever I go. Just got used to the perks of it. Boarding ahead, picking up your luggage first, ability to sleep properly, quality of service etc.,
