If taxes are paid, it is hard to catch. All of the payments are made to the consultancy and that guy can run any amount after withholding taxes. If they take the amount to hand then any payments over 10k from the same source in a year will be reported by the banks.

Yes, you can get paid even a million dollars ... If taxes are paid then you are okay... 500$ per hour for specialized software consulting is not that abnormal..
