Why are we obsessed with Ramayana/Mahabharat based stories

Those books have been written centuries ago, on events that transpired 1000s of years ago. 

Time to come up with stories based on more concurrent themes, instead of rehashing themes from thousands of years.

Always good to appreciate our Gita and Ramayana though we believe in it or not, else poachers of other religion are waiting to convert us.
