Scientists Move Closer to Unlocking the Secrets of the Immortal Jellyfish, and Possibly Human Aging
 

 Authors of a new study hope the genome mapping of Turritopsis dohrnii, known for its ability to rebirth itself, might lead to discoveries relevant to improving human healthspan

A team of sci­en­tists in Spain has suc­ceeded in map­ping the genome of a jel­ly­fish known for its abil­ity to cheat death by re­birthing it­self.

Dubbed the im­mor­tal jel­ly­fish, the tiny sea crea­ture can turn its bi­o­log­i­cal clock back­ward and re­vert to a clump of ju­ve­nile cells—even af­ter re­pro­duc­ing sex­u­ally.

Once back in its ju­ve­nile state, the jel­ly­fish can also re­pro­duce asex­u­ally by cloning polyps of it­self—giv­ing it two ways to prop­a­gate its ge­netic ma­te­r­ial.

In a study pub­lished Mon­day in the Pro­ceed­ings of the Na­tional Acad­emy of Sci­ences, the au­thors said they hoped their genome map­ping might lead to dis­cov­er­ies rel­e­vant to hu­man ag­ing and ef­forts to im­prove the hu­man healthspan.

i envy new few generations man.....they will have long lifetimes and will not have to worry about things like obesity , diabetes etc.  we might be better off compared to our previous generations but this will be a larger step

long life's in future also come with a mandatory Vax and health plans, there is nothing coming to humanity that is not related to profit

i could even think future life term will be packaged (at birth parents need to buy a plan for 100/70/60/30), BTW plan does guarantee that life, it just provides coverage like insurance

Half of such news never go beyond initial stages due to lack of "for profit" feasibility

I dont see any purpose for me living after 60….

what is fascinating in this is...how human natural capabilities are very small and limited...compared to other animals and creatures.. 

every creature has its own...unique capability...

humans unique capability is cognitive awareness...with that only one capability we are thinking we are superiors...

 

we see in only certain frequency (prism)...but there are some animals and birds can see infra red and ULTRAVIOLET..

we hear only certain frequencies..comparing to certain animals... (just imagine..if animals making sounds in the same frequency they listen...)

sea horse male pregnancy...

 

eagle rays can reproduce with out sex..

 

now..this immortal gelly fish discovery is another level...

i wonder...in deep ocean what kind creatures are surviving...

thats what such research will help. live longer and healthy . no on wants to live with health issues.

future lo we can have nano robots that take care of your cells and keep them healthy. gene editing that will remove diseases.  and many such medical advances that makes life long and healthy

Immortality might protect us from death in few instances.

However, suffering due to diseases and senility will continue. What’s the point of living if you are diseased and miserable. Also, if your body is decimated and it’s 1500 pieces part, then death is inevitable.
