its a weighted average of half dozen rain gauges that imd installed across Hyd. Some areas obviously would've touched 30+.

during that deluge in chennai, a lot of suburbs in the south got pounded with 49.5cm

mumbai got recently rainfall that was 55cm something on a single day as avg. just accept Hyd infra is piss poor like all other cities. and there's no hope for improvement too given the general attitude to basic civic infra in India, in contrast to fancy flyovers, rich man's metro and huge airports

That is average across Hyderabad  I guess but some areas received as much 100mm in 2 hours and 30cm in 24 hours.

yeah. that's what I said. None of the figures you posted avg to 31cm. it avgs to 19.2cm which is how generally precipitation is reported.

including in bangalore.. whitefield received 19cm, sr nagar 17cm.

I'm currently in bangalore, and it was a heavy deluge yes. but nothing to level of an unpreventable flood. since both hyd and bangalore are situated at much higher altitudes where drain systems can be designed for much cheaper than in cities that lie at the sea level like chennai/mumbai.

ika migilindi low lying areas and encroached areas which are prone to flooding, and I don't think there is a practical solution to avoid flooding these areas. 365 days lo oka 10 days inundated, a price people must pay for neglecting and encroachment. Ie low lying areas ki flood control design cheyalante GHMC must spend thousands of crores and deal with property acquisition, court cases, stay order and what not...

what a depressing thought. Its always something that someone 'must' pay, and no hope for better coordination and planning going into the future.

a lot of these 'encroachers' are the state/central govts themselves too.

your solution is to just keep your head down, and carry on with your work. If you die, that's your bad luck. TG is proud to have a son like you.

Govts took money from these encroachers and legalized their habitats. Shouldn’t have happened in the first place…ipudu flooding avoid cheyalante you need thousands of crores. Edikelli teesukostav ? Almost a decade back, estimation esthe 25,000 crores and about 1 lakh properties need to be acquired to overcome this project and it was well before the new new land acquisition laws were implemented. On present scale, it will not cost less than 50-60k crores…
