Ask him about their day to day activities

Ask them what would be a typical workday if I get hired?

Also ask them if they are trying to focus on any new project with this new hire.
If they provide some information about it, show more excitement and flatter their ego by sounding how amazing their work is. Wish them good luck in the project if you never have a chance to speak with them again.
 

That trick will work on their psychology
