Rutgers, new Brunswick(almost comparable to Texas A&M and Austin) and better than almost all other Southern US universities is a great university consistently ranked below 40-45. But it lives in shadow of Princeton.  It has better reputation outside of NJ because all high school kids fantasize Princeton and look low at Rutgers.

Apart from that Quality of Jobs in NY-NJ-CT metro area is unmatched and very comparable to bay area. Not even close to backend generic jobs of other Desi Places

NJ is one of the states that produce a good number of high school graduates going to colleges, but proportionately has a very low number of decent colleges to accomodate these students. I saw an infograph regarding this but can't seem to find it.

Kids these days look down on Rutgers but it's ranking has increased quite a bit last few years. Not everyone can get into Princeton. Other than Rutgers, Stevens not a lot of good colleges. That's why you find loads of NJ students in Pennsylvania and New York.

Agreed on the quality of job market. What i meant to say was there is a credible job market within the state without taking into account jobs in NYC or Phili area.

California experience is something else. 365 days outdoor weather. Beaches, beautiful hiking trails, Tech industry, liberal climate, Skiing, LA/Hollywood, beautiful lakes and mountains. More salaries. It is WORTH paying those taxes.

Austin lo we were extremely depressed in those hot summers. It is next to hell. 80s and 90s even in the nights. 

If any of want to live life to the fullest (and who can leave your friends in Texas), come to CA.
