Just to give an example, I have a friend who bought the same way.. 5% down for a 550K house in the Austin area.. Leases a luxury car with a $1000 payment monthly. He keeps saying I don't have money every time.. 
The thing is he is rich in India, he doesn't care about savings here nor for retirement or child's college.. 

He wants to spend it all and enjoy it... Worst case he has money in India, will migrate and spend that as well.

400k annual income unte ok ba I totally understand..

But that 5% down payment does not justify for 850k price tag home.

Dude, Ma chuttalu ki 5 Mil Mortgage vundi. Their payment is close to 30K. Does it affect me.. No..

You don't know what they are earning or what their financial preference is..

Buying at 5% down when you are not a resident, no matter your financial situation is a worse investment choice.
