plenty of well made films that challenge Islamic orthodoxy. One such I can remember off the top of my head is the French film Persepolis. It was made by a French Iranian.

may be you mean Indian films.. I think Anwar portrays muslim societies and their tendency towards extreme patriarchal control of the girl child rather well. If you mean if muslim makers in India make films like that, I don't know man. There aren't many muslim makers in India in the first place. can you name a few muslim directors in Telugu?

PK, Oh My God are all fluff bs movies that are made to evoke laughs. path breaking movies that criticize religion is made in the west. Try 'Last Temptation of Christ' an exceptionally blasphemous movie.

If we make a movie on Krishna showing him as (fill your fav word, coz I'm actually afraid to say stuff casually now that I used to earlier when aroudn Hindus) , pretty sure the director will get killed.. or at the minimum his home will get bombed.

again it has nothing to do with the 'threat of radical islam'. most of these threats don't come from poor conservative muslims that are hyperventilating at some movie's portrayal of Islam. It comes from kids who grow up in reasonably well to do families, and are very well educated, that want more power and want to use Islam to achieve it.

same for Hindu militancy. all of them are from UC well to do families with a lot of social standing. they just use poor gau rakshaks to do the ground work.

Muslims in south ditched their mother tongues of telugu , tamil and ran behind hindi/urdu. If not they would have faced lesser problem than bollywood which is basically an urduwood.
