for eg.. inspite of China's remarkable GDP success - some 6x India's GDP, average Chinese per capita consumption is hardly 60% more than India.

China is still piss poor, and even if they become a mighty power (they probably are), it won't translate into prosperity for their people at large, who'll still be poor. Just like a large part of India is poor.

So Chinese being materialists haven't probably worked for them. except for their elites, who'll exit the country the moment currency controls are lifted in China. Given the rate at which they buy property in safe havens like Canada, China is nothing but a joke.
