Reach out to Embassy in person it will get approved on same day. My passport renewal done in same day in DC Embassy ( in 2016). My situation was same like yours in 2016 so it got approved in 4 hours 1 3 Quote

They will atleast give you emergency certificate using which you can travel to india. Then after visiting india you can get your passport renwed Quote
