Perhaps the most interesting data I’ve seen regarding cloud market share for $AMZN $MSFT $GOOGL.

TTM new revenue tracks new cloud spend over the last 12 months, a good predictor for momentum.

Change from Q3 2022 to Q3 2023.

AWS: 52.5% -> 37.5%
Azure: 27.4% -> 42.8%
GCP: 20.0% -> 19.7%

Over the last two quarters, Azure has generated more new revenue than AWS.

A few reasons why we’re seeing this happen:

1. Fiscal Year Dynamics

Microsoft’s Q4 is two quarters earlier than $AMZN and $GOOGL.

Deals get pushed to Q4 in sales orgs, they don’t get pushed past the fiscal year.

We’ll see a market share bump for AWS and GCP next quarter.

2. Optimization

AWS & GCP are more affected by optimization due to their exposure to tech companies & their product mix.

Azure has higher exposure to traditional enterprises that move slower. Their products are also harder to optimize.

3. Azure Execution

$MSFT has executed at a much higher level on AI over the last year.

Google moved slower than Microsoft, Amazon moved slower than both.

Main takeaway: A combination of market dynamics & Azure execution has led to the biggest shakeup in cloud market share since its inception.

that's the new mantra for all software products and services. Time to market gets top priority over quality, I think initial stages lo dead seep ki services provide chestharu so customer satisfaction is not affected.
