A bit of history, what is in our DNA,. medicine and biology...

Primary role of women is to give life and feed the children.... Many believe, for valid reasons that it's in our DNA.. just like other animals. Male and female are incentivsed to have sex , but primarily purpose is to  bring life... 

That's how human race evolved. Religion, restrictions, rules all added to bring some order and contain chaos.

Before birth control ... Means before 1960s and 1970s.... Both men and women are afraid to have illegal affairs... Especially women became the risk of getting pregnant... Society all over the world didn't accept. Men are also same ... but not as much. Powerful men always have their way - they can do whatever they want - from ages. That is exception, not norm.

Only after 2000s, with Viagra and other drugs many men have the ability to have sex ( that can satisfy young women) well into 40s and 50s ... It's one of factor for sex tourism, polygamy cravings for ordinary men , divorces etc ...
