Jagadish Chandra Bose, an Indian scientist, conducted pioneering research that suggested plants have a kind of sentience. In the early 1900s, he began experiments on plants to measure their electrical responses, using devices and instruments of his own invention. He observed that plants responded to various stimuli and even experienced an electrical spasm at the end of their life, akin to the death spasms seen in animal muscle tissues . Bose proposed that plants possess structures analogous to the nerves and pulsating cells found in animals, suggesting a form of plant "nervous system" that allowed them to respond to external stimuli . His work indicated that plants could have a definite life cycle, a reproductive system, and an awareness of their surroundings, challenging the then-prevailing scientific view that plants were passive, unresponsive entities . Through his experiments, Bose demonstrated that plants exhibited signs of sentience by responding to external stimuli such as heat, cold, light, and noise. This responsiveness indicated that plants and animals might share much in common when it comes to basic physiological responses . Bose's research was significant because it contradicted Western scientific paradigms at the time and suggested a parallelism between animal and plant tissues that later biophysicists noted. This kind of unified consciousness has an evolutionary benefit because it allows an organism to manifest immediate complex behavior in response to an immediate situation. That alone takes a huge amount of energy. A plant cannot react to anything in an immediate way, and more importantly, to the degree it can react, it does not require an individuated mind that can process and give rise to a complex and dynamic response in relationship to a complex and dynamic environment. what experiments of Bose did he prove that plants are sentient? He proved they have life, and complex physiology, ofcourse. but sentience is different. you are not capable of a debate dude. don't make an a$$ of yourself everywhere. Quote
