i don't know what you mean by cosmopolitan.. majority of migrants to Chennai now are from the TN, so much that I have to bear with the 'pure Tamil', in contrast to the free flowing irreverent language that used a lot of hindi, urdu, english, telugu loan words earlier.

dravidianism slowed what down? you guys live in your own bubble, and have no understanding what dravidianism even is. without dravidianism, there's no Chennai. dravidianism has only enriched Chennai. Its another matter that Chennai don't give a fcuk about India.

All cities have a inbuilt inertia that comes from people moving from outside and then putting down their roots there, and then disallowing the next batch of migrants to prosper there (city expands because the people who put roots down refuse to accommodate the newcomers).. By that measure, I don't think there's any city that can qualify as a cosmopolitan.. Even in the world, forget India. All cities will expand and consume resources like monsters, creating huge underclass, while the upperclasses feel smug about their cities and give rankings to which one is the best - like its a product off Amazon. jokers.

All cities will eventually be dumpyards for the memories of people who used to live there.. nothing more. Humans are too narrow minded to actually build a cosmopolitan city. May be Hong Kong is an exception.. but then may be not.

If Hyd had actually managed to build a tech corridor right in the middle of the city, that'd be cosmopolitan.

not build one many kms outside the city, to get away from the riffraff inside it.. to create your own enclaves and be proud of your city, while it keeps on expanding to accommodate others, without bothering those who've already arrived. Literally there's no interaction between the new arrivals and natives.. you call this cosmopolitan?

ofcourse other cities are no different.

go look at the poorer parts of your 'cosmopolitan' cities and see how people live first. lets see you start an IT company right in the middle of that stench. cosmopolitan my a$$

To truly be a cosmopolitan city,

1. people shouldn't be allowed to buy property there. property owners tend to become very rigid and lazy over time, but its very hard to design a system that both encourages entrepreneurship, and doesn't allow people to hoard wealth and become rent seeking monsters.

2. no one should be able to own the city. especially based on where they were born or sh1t like what people shamelessly indulge in.

climate change is going to test a lot of people's idea of 'my city'..

both as participants in the city they live in, and as observers of the city they are emotionally attached to from 1000s of kms away.

needless to say, 99.99% people will fail this test. They will be exposed as cruel and selfish fcuking pigs, who only care about stupid lists to flex muscle about their city. Not actually make sure tht the city they love is liveable for everyone.
