Pakistan, Bangladesh fans dial BCCI, sing 'mauka mauka' to mock India's World Cup exit

Following India's semi-final exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, fans from Pakistan and Bangladesh reportedly called the Borad of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai to make fun of the team's loss by singing lines of a popular TV commercial.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the BCCI office received as many as 200 calls, many of which were traced to Pakistan and Bangladesh, on landline connections on Friday. As soon as the officials would answer the call, the callers would sing "Mauka mauka! Kya hua mauke ka?" to poke fun at India's exit.

Defending champions India were knocked out of the World Cup after a 95-run defeat to Australia on Thursday at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The commercial here refers to a popular Star Sports advertisement where a man - a Pakistani fan, is shown to wait endlessly for his team to break the World Cup jinx against India which would allow him to burst celebratory crackers but would end up disappointed every time. After India beat Pakistan in the quadrennial event for the 6th consecutive time, the protagonist turned his loyalty towards other teams in hope to be on the winning side against India. The whole series of commercials became quite popular with mixed reactions from different quarters.

The calls started coming around 4 pm on Friday and after a point, the BCCI officials decided to disconnect the lines.

"We got the telephone company to trace the origin of these calls. A large number of them were from Bangladesh, while the rest were from Pakistan," the newspaper quoted a BCCI staff member.

"This is the first time we have received calls from outside the country to mock the Indian team's performance," the staffer added.
