the name నాస్తిక దర్శనాలు is wrongly circulated and became widely popular…it should be అవైదిక దర్శనాలు….

in those days who ever opposed vedas …they were labeled as నాస్తిక…

philosophy of thought…and way of life..

kind of sophists…

it was a sect that first rejected the existence of supernatural beings completely. there were other atheist movements in the vedic period. one of Purva Mimasa who believed that the vedas weren't real but their only existence was in the power of the words used to invoke them.

Aryabhata, one of the earliest Indian scientist was heavily involved in Carvaka thought. As a philosophy, it can be classified as materialist, one of the first in a long line of materialist thought that includes marxism too.

ajivika movement was more determinist. they believed that universe was composed at the fundamental level, physical particles whose movements were completely predetermined..

atleast this is what many believe about their thought because details about that movement is from second hand Buddhist and Jain sources, and not from their foundational texts.

One of the most popular ajivika was Chandragupta Maurya's son Bindusara, who believed in prophecies about his son being the great emperor, because that's how he believed the world works.

the constant fallacy that a lot of leftists and other sub national ethnic movements (like dravidianists) in India indulge in is repeating the convenient notion that Manusmriti was the authoritative text for Hindus.. It was not.

An unbiased version of India's history will throw up an interesting mix of divergent ideas and laws (some of which were even written by women challenging male-centric laws).

trivia of this makkali goshaludu and ajivika movement is…he satyed in same timeline with gowtham budda and jain mahaveer….

he had a physical fight with jain mahaveerudu who teches ahimsa…

he had a conflict with budda followers because ajivika movement was  disrupting buddism expansion (who teached reduce the desire)
