I was laid off 3 months. No change in life. Lot of friends volunteered to refer me for positions in their companies.

#1 Idhi depend avuddhi. Arranged marriages are transactions so are most love marriages. Starting lo it's ok, inkokati vasthadhi Ani consoling gane mataldutharu. With time, if you don't pick up another job or let's say you are not finding job or have your visa situation getting affected your spouses loose mental patience as well and will start dominating the relationship to having arguments by nitpicking small things.  If children are not involved, then chances of divorce or affairs are very high.

#2 Depends whom you call friends. If these are the ones that you have grown up with sure they will help you. But if these are transactional friendships then it depends on the type of transactions. 

#3 Doing a job is almost a compulsion for everyone. What do you mean by mental peace here?

depends on how ready you are. if you have been in the same job for a long time without interviewing for a decade or more it is tough. also depends on job market.

Just a different question. If we take gap between two jobs twice, can we still exceed 3 months period ? Is the 3 month period once per H1B renewal ?

Yea that's what I was wondering because socialism is taking over in US very quickly. Current crop of employees care mostly about prestige, rest and vest than dignity of labor. I wonder how stressful it will be mentally to handle layoffs now.
