Dr Chandra was initially tipped to contest from Narasaraopet Lok Sabha constituency. However, the party shifted him to Guntur after sitting Narasaraopet MP Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu, who was denied a ticket by YSRCP, expressed his keenness to join TDP. Dr Chandra has been a long-time TDP supporter and has organised several charity activities for the party over the past decade. After getting the nod from party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, he met Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and sought his support.

Dr Chandra, who hails from Burripalem village in Tenali constituency, moved to Narasaraopet after his father started a hotel business in the town. He completed his high school in Narasaraopet and MBBS from Osmania medical college. He then moved to the US for his post-graduation where he worked for several years, first as a physician and later as a faculty at John Hopkins university. He also bagged the ‘Earnest and Young’ award in 2020. As he struggled to manage his higher education costs during his college days, Dr Chandra used to distribute study material free of cost to poor students from India. He was 25 when he launched his service initiative by setting up a non-profit NGO ‘You World’ to provide guidance and study material to clear licensing examinations. His NGO now provides assistance to students in pharmacy, nursing, law, commerce, and accounting too.
