Scene#17

The rhythmic beating of the ocean against the boat contrasted sharply with the tense atmosphere between Deepak and Pranav.

Deepak leaned over the small wooden table, the clinking of ice in the glass echoing as he refilled Pranav’s Scotch. His smile was tight, eyes scanning Pranav’s increasingly confused face. “Thaagu... nekey manchidi... mana iddariki manchidi,” he said, his tone friendly yet with an underlying edge.

Pranav, his head heavy with alcohol, tried to focus on Deepak. “Emi avthundi... enduku ila matladathunnav?” his words struggling from the intoxication.

“Oh, today is very special. Ee dinam... nee thaddinam,” Deepak replied casually, his hand trembling slightly as he poured himself another drink.

Pranav's heart began to race.

“Ninnu mee parents.. adey.. Ram uncle, Lakshmi Aunty enduku adopt cheskunnaro thelusa?” Deepak probed, keeping his tone casual yet sharp like arrows to Pranav’s heart.

A storm of emotions enveloped Pranav.

“Nuvvu ila kuntiga avvadaaniki karanam evvaro telusa? Chinnapudi nunchi ninnu treat chesina family Doctor ni adigaava asalu... guddiga Lakshmi aunty neeku cheppina sodhi nammesaava?” Deepak questioned, taking another peg.

Silence filled the air as Pranav absorbed the shock, unable to react.

“Myra ki nee medha ishtam ledu... almost brother and sister laaga perigaru iddaru... nuvvu oka kunti vaadivi.. ninnu thanu love ela chestundi ani nuvvu anukunnaav?” Deepak’s voice was harsh yet factual.

“Koncham aina common sense undaali kadha baava.. neekey oka kuthuru puttindhi anuko.. nuvvu oka handicapped person ki isthaava pellichesko daaniki,” he added sharply.

Deepak sipped his Scotch again, pouring himself two more pegs.

Pranav’s heartbeat accelerated.

“Hey... Deepak.. nuvvu plan chestundi chaala thappu ra... I don't love Myra. I know you both love each other. I will divorce her immediately after this trip. Meeru iddaru pelli cheskondi.. nanni ila vadiley.. please,” Pranav begged.

Deepak cleared his throat.

“Neeku.. matter inka ardham kaavatledhu... plan chesindi.. nenu okkadiney kaadhu.. nenu, Myra, Uncle, Aunty.. andharu..”

“Nuvvu paiki pothey.. memantha.. happy ga ikkada enjoy cheskuntaam.. mee parents ki 50 crores paina aasthi undi.. I mean.. sorry.. nee aasthi.. I mean.. sorry maa aasthi,” Deepak revealed, his tone cold and calculated.

Pranav sank into a state of shock, struggling to process everything.

“Meerantha plan chestundhi.. chaala peddha thappu,” Pranav stammered, his voice trembling.

“Arrey boss.... ee prapancham lo thappu oppu anevi emi undavu.. avanni chinnapilla maatalu.. chandamama kadhalu..” Deepak paused before continuing, “There are only two things.. legal or illegal.. basically dorikinodey donga.”

Saying this, Deepak got up and came closer to Pranav.

“Pranav! Neeku eetha vaccha???”

Pranav looked at Deepak, filled with fear, and then looked at the vast, unforgiving ocean surrounding the boat.

“Deepak.. one last peg..” Pranav lifted his glass.

“Okay!! Thaagu.. bottle finish chesey.. nuvvu entha thaagithey.. naa pani antha suluvu ga aipothaadhi,” Deepak replied, a trace of eagerness in his voice.

As Deepak approached again with the bottle, Pranav’s inner alertness increased. 

“Baaga thaagu... full ga thaagu! Noppi kuda thelidhu,” Deepak urged, tilting the bottle. Pranav’s left hand shot out, gripping Deepak’s wrist with surprising strength. His other hand grabbed the heavy Scotch bottle.

Deepak was surprised, his eyes widening in shock. “Pranav!!!!”

Pranav stood up from the wheelchair with the full force of adrenaline rushing through his body, fueled by his survival instinct. With a grunt, he swung the bottle with the full strength of both hands. It connected with a loud, sickening thud against Deepak’s skull, the glass shattering upon impact. Scotch and blood mixed in a horrifying mix, dripping down Deepak’s stunned face. He stumbled back, holding his head, a pained scream escaping his lips.



Pranav's action drained him. He fell back into his chair, the alcohol finally overtaking him. His last sight was of Deepak on the floor in great pain. He then closed his eyes and passed out. 

Meanwhile, Myra paced restlessly below in her room, her mind racing with scenarios and outcomes. The silence from above unnerved her. Finally, after waiting for 3 hours, she lost her patience, unable to contain her anxiety any longer. She climbed the stairs to the deck, shouting, “Deepak! Deepak!”

The scene before her shocked her to her very core. She just stopped completely. Pranav wasn’t moving, seemingly unconscious in his chair, and there was no sign of Deepak! She was completely panic-stricken.

 

“Pranav, ley... wake up! Deepak ekkada? Emaindi ikkada??” she demanded, shaking him by the shoulder.

Tears fell from Myra's face, splashing onto Pranav's face and shoulders as she shook him left and right.

Pranav’s eyes finally opened, his mind slowly coming back to reality.
