Not too far from Edison. Biryani City, Hillsborough & House of Biryanis Piscataway.

If you're staying in Edison then I'd suggest Oak Tree Road for food. Moghul Express, Amma's Kitchen, Mithaas, Sri Dosa Place, Persis etc.

OP, stay close to a train station, assuming you plan to take trains into the city.

I am planning to rent a car. As I will be covering NJ, NY and driving to Buffalo NY.
