A stray dog became the star attraction at the inaugural Indian GP. The first Friday free practice which was scheduled to begin on Friday morning was interrupted for 5 minutes as a black stray dog ran onto the track, sending the organizers into a frenzy.
Pursuit vehicles scampered after the dog which ran aimlessly all over the track. The organizers finally succeeded in driving the dog out. Delhi is under tremendous pressure to pull off a successful international event in the wake of a disastrous Commonwealth Games scandal.
Lewis Hamilton of Mc Laren Mercedes topped the first free practice and he was closely followed by World Champion Sebastian Vettel. F1 Legend and seven time World Champion Michael Schumacher came fifth in the Mercedes.
