Vote For Change, Says Priyanka

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Urging voters of Uttar Pradesh to give the Congress a majority in the assembly polls so that it does not have to depend on other parties, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Thursday said it was time people changed the politics of the state for their own benefit.

Addressing a rally here, she said the change will not benefit her or her brother Rahul Gandhi, but the people themselves.

"When will you bring a change? Till what time will you tolerate? Time has come for a change. Change will not benefit Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi. It will benefit you. It will bring politics of development," said Priyanka.

"Do you want a change or not? That is the question before you. Ask your inner self. Is it time for change?" she said, urging the people to vote for the Congress so that the party is able to form a government on its own.

"There should be a Congress government so that the party does not have to make compromises, it does not have to stretch its arms (before other parties)," Priyanka said, adding that a Congress government in the state will follow programmes of the party-led central government.

She said her brother had toured the state extensively and felt pain at the condition of people.

There was talk all over the world about the development strides being made by India but Uttar Pradesh was lagging behind, she said.

"Why is Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra ahead. Why is Uttar Pradesh lagging behind? How did it happen? It is the most populous state of the country," Priyanka said, adding that parties ruling the state over the past 22 years had not taken up proplems of people but had indulged in "self-seeking politics."

"You are the people who make leaders. The power is in your hands. Why are you quiet?" she said.

"Our work is to make you aware," she added.

Priyanka said political leaders go back to their houses after talking of problems and it is people who continue to bear the brunt. Facilities like power, roads, and water were rights of people and a government did not do any favour by providing these amenities.

"Do not be misdirected. Delivering development is their duty," she said, adding that people were masters of their destiny.

She said if people woke up to their situation, they will become a big force, and added that Rahul Gandhi cannot do it alone.

Priyanka asserted that the Congress will bring the state back on the path of development.

"Vote with due deliberation so that the future of your children is bright," she said.([/font]
