'racha' Beats 'businessman'

The star wars has heated up this summer. Just when everyone thought that Mahesh Babu will rule the box office records for a while things have changed. This is in the form of 'Racha' starring Ram Charan Tej.
Reports say that 'Racha' has gone past Mahesh's 'Businessman' in the opening week collections. The film has recorded Rs 26.92 cr gross from AP and Karnataka.
Below is the breakup of the figures -
Nizam- 7.5 cr, Ceded - 5.4 cr, Krishna- 1.61cr, Guntur- 2.88 cr, East -1.77 cr, West- 1.65 cr, Vizag - 2.44 cr, Nellore-1.17cr. Karnataka recorded 2 cr.
So, the mega fans have a lot to cheer and it is time for Mahesh fans to gear up for another big hit.

Racha Overseas: BIG Looser Published Date : 14-Apr-2012 02:05:41 GMT



From now onwards we are going to give the Trade report of Overseas Telugu movies, as we don't want the overseas buyers to fall in the trap of Greedy Producers with their hype about each and every movie without knowing the facts of the trade and push buyers to incur huge losses.

So here we are giving Trade Facts of Racha overseas.

The following are the officially recorded collections.

Wed(Apr 4th): $46K (Premiers in few centers only)
Thu(Apr 5th): $47K
Fri(Apr 6th): $87K
Sat(Apr 7th): $103K
Sun(Apr 8th): $36K
Mon (Apr 9th) to Thur (Apr 12th) – 13K

Total Officially Reported Gross for 9 days: $332K

As per various exhibitors and distributors, non-reported centers gross will be around 30% which is approximately 100K and as per our estimation, Racha might collect another 40K to 50K from its 2nd week onwards in all the centers.

Racha USA total gross(Recorded and Non Recorded) - $480K.
Total USA Distributor/Exhibitor share  - $320K = Rs 1.6cr

NON-USA, as per our sources, Australia it got 9laks, UK – 18laks, Gulf- 30 laks, Malaysia-2 laks  of distributor share. Overseas DVD rights might fetch another 5 laks.

So, worldwide Racha share stands at approximately – 2.24 crores which is very good in nay terms considering the content and genre of the movie which has too many MASS elements.

Anlysis: Racha was bought for 3.15cr (2.75cr copy rights + 40laks for prints, publicity, Digital expenses and shipping charges etc), so NET LOSS is Rs 89laks for a movie which got Hit talk in India.

So, Racha is BIG LOOSER for overseas territory considering the HUGE price it bought for, if the movie is bought for reasonably good price like 2.25cr, all the buyers would have atleast some profits after long time and hence movie would have been declared as a Good HIT in overseas also, so technically Racha is a looser though it got HIT talk and good collections. Earlier this year same thing happened for Businessman also which incurred almost similar losses due to its exorbitant prices.

Conclusion: Overseas Distributors /Exhibitors know the facts and genre of the movie before quoting huge prices.
