Nims Doctors Shocked Over Reinstatement Of Tainted Doctors

Efforts to reinstate the three tainted doctors of Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) have not gone down well with the doctors and other medical staff of the hospital. Several senior doctors asserted that such instances will further dent the already tarnished reputation of NIMS among the general public.[/font][/color][color=#3B3A39][font=Georgia,]
Many have also questioned the logic behind the decision to reinstate the three tainted doctors - Superintendent Nimma Satyanarayana, cardiologist and additional professor Dr. K. Sarat Chandra and Deputy Medical Superintendent G.S.C. Nagavara Prasad. “How can the government reinstate the doctors when the issue is still pending in the Courts? Moreover, the preliminary enquiry report of the then NIMS Director Prasanta Mahapatra had clearly recommended for disciplinary action. A second enquiry was not at all conducted on this issue,” senior doctors pointed out. Senior physicians of NIMS have maintained that such decisions will send a wrong signal among the general public. “Such decisions will reinforce the perception among the general public that corruption is common at NIMS. The Health Minister and other top level health authorities should interfere on this issue,” several doctors on condition of anonymity said.[/font][/color][color=#3B3A39][font=Georgia,]
Meanwhile, on Friday, sources familiar with the controversy have said that the three doctors were on course and would be reinstated at the earliest. “The three doctors have managed to convince the ‘higher ups' in the State government. In fact, it is just a matter of time before they get return back to the NIMS,” sources said.[/font][/color][color=#3B3A39][font=Georgia,]
Several doctors from various departments of NIMS said that the health authorities should have conducted a thorough enquiry into the issue before taking any decision. “After placing the three doctors under suspension, the present NIMS Director in the suspensions orders said that further enquiry has to be done. There is no sign of any enquiry and now they have apparently decided to reinstate them,” NIMS doctors said.[/font][/color]
