Vh Sheds Tears In Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, May 18: BJP members on Friday obstructed speech of senior Congress member V Hanumanta Rao when he sought to explain the plight of Telangana people in the Rajya Sabha.

When Hanumantha Rao said that Telangana region was deprived of development and great injustice was meted out to it, the BJP members disrupted his speech. Party leader Prakash Javadekar asked VH to first state his party’s stand on the 'T' issue. He said that people were asking the Congress to first state its stand. There was a heated argument between members of the two parties and the House had to be adjourned for half-an-hour amid din.

Hanumantha Rao shed tears while narrating the plight of the Telangana region. Speaking on the private bill of the BJP in the House, VH said while Andhra Pradesh was created when Potti Sriramulu had died, the government was denying Telangana though hundreds of students had laid down their lives for it. He said that in the united Andhra Pradesh, great injustice was meted out to Telangana in all spheres. He said that the government should honour the commitment it made when Union Home minister P. Chidambaram made an announcement that the creation of Telangana State had begun on December 9, 2009. He said that Telangana was the only solution to the ongoing suicides.

Hanumanta Rao, however, said that he had full faith in Congress president Sonia Gandhi that she would concede Telangana. He alleged that the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had no clear view on the 'T' issue. When he also criticized the BJP, members of that party had obstructed his speech.

Prakash Javadekar said that it was BJP which carved out three States when NDA was in power. He said that if his party came back to power once again, Telangana would be a reality. He also demanded that the Congress must spell out its own stand on 'T' first.

Another Congress member Renuka Choudary supported Hanumantha Rao during his speech.
