Bata Launching 'footin' Brand For Youths

KOLKATA: Bata, India’s largest retailer and leading manufacturer of footwear, is launching 'Footin' brand to sell fashionable footwear and accessories to young adults at reasonable prices. Bata says the new retail format will allow it to grow its sales among consumers in the age group of 15-25 who are one of the largest buyers of fashion shoes and accessories.
Bata India Managing Director, Rajeev Gopalakrishnan, informed that Bata plans to open 100 Footin stores by 2015 at an investment of about 45 crore. Footin stores are going to be set up over 1,000 sq ft and sell products at the price ranges of 399 and 599. The stores are to be developed in a new youthful layout and design, which will be different from existing Bata stores; and these stores will not carry the Bata name. Gopalakrishnan further stated, “We currently have four Footin stores under trial stage. The response is encouraging with sales of 700-800 pairs on a weekly basis.”
He also added, “We have seen relocation of stores to larger format increases sales three times.” Bata India aims to invest 45 crore to improve its manufacturing plants in India and expand over the next three years.
