The daily had put its price at Rs 2 a paper and had run a campaign to mount pressure on other dailies to bring down their prices too. The daily also narrated how to sell the paper at Rs 2 and collected views of people across the State in its support. Nine months down the line, the daily had realized the price it had paid so far. The paper was only waiting for an opportunity to break the ice and increase the price. Taking advantage of the Satyam Computer Services failure, Sakshi chairman, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, had come up with a front page appeal to the readers on Thursday. He admitted that he had undergone a lot of struggle before deciding to increase the paper cost from Rs 2 to Rs 2.50. He also accepted that he was worried about giving a chance to his critics to attack him. Sure, it is now the turn of Eenadu and Andhra Jyothi to respond to this change. The two papers have been writing stories one after the other about the financial position of Sakshi and now it is to be seen how the two dailies would respond to Jagan’s appeal.
