Traffic restrictions blight lives in Auto Nagar

VIJAYAWADA: With the city police imposing restrictions on the entry of lorries and other heavy vehicles into Auto Nagar here, around 30 per cent of mechanics and industrial labourers have moved to other places in the last six months. The lack of infrastructural facilities and the recent traffic diversions have not just hampered the growth of the place but also led to the large-scale displacement of workers. 

The Jawaharlal Nehru Auto Nagar Industrial Estate is the biggest automobile hub in the country. It is even touted as the largest such hub in Asia. As per official estimates, one lakh people depend directly or indirectly on the nearly 1,500 automobile units situated in the estate that was established way back in 1966. 

There are four entries to the area - Industrial Estate Gate adjacent to Auto Nagar bus terminal, Pantakaluva Road, Guru Nanak Nagar Road and Mahanadu Road. Except the last named, lorries are not being allowed to enter through the other gates in the last six months. This is making it difficult for the people working there as the source of their work is being cut off. 

The mechanics complain that they are losing business on vehicles which come from NH-16 and NH-65. "All the heavy vehicles which come from the two main national highways obviously wouldn't take a roundabout route of Mahanadu to enter the place. Therefore, they are getting all the maintenance works done at the outskirts," said Kammili Satyanarayana, president of Automobile Mechanics' Association in Auto Nagar. 

Majority of the people earning a living in Auto Nagar are daily-wage labourers. About 60,000 people are dependent on the number of vehicles that come on daily basis. Since the number of lorries has gone down drastically, most of the workers are going to nearby towns and cities in search of work. 

Satyanarayana rued that more than 30 percent of industrial labourers and mechanics have migrated of late. "Our lives depend on the heavy vehicles. Restriction of lorries is in a way restricting us from breathing air by closing our noses," he said. 

A mechanic from the area, S Srinu, who works at small-scale automobile repair centre said that he is planning to move to either Nuzvid or Kondapalli. "At least the industrial estates in these two places would have a daily requirement unlike here. I have to support a family of three," Srinu explained. 

Compounding the problems is the pathetic condition of the Mahanadu road. Even the other units operating in Auto Nagar are losing out because there is no proper approach road. "The road is so bad that no lorry would enter. When Mahanadu Road is the only entry, the road should be properly laid. And because of its absence, we are seeing a drop of 25-30 percent in business," said K Janardhana Rao, proprietor of Aruna Filling Station. 

He pointed out that their profit margin is directly proportional to the entry of vehicles. "Auto Nagar is famous for the services it offers. The government should focus on the issues here and protect this area before almost everyone moves away," Janardhana Rao emphasised. 

Even though the workers' unions in the area had submitted a representation to the police officials and civic authorities, no action has been taken. The president of the mechanics' association Satyanarayana said that they are planning to protest against this discrimination. "We met the previous police commissioner AB Venkateswara Rao but he turned a deaf ear. We are in talks with the trade unions and soon we will make our intentions clear by staging protests," he concluded.

CM wants to make AP entrepreneurs’ hub

 

VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to industrialists to join hands with the government in making Andhra Pradesh a hub of entrepreneurs. 

Speaking to industry captains at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) national conference held in Hyderabad via video-conference on Thursday, Naidu said that AP would be number one in exports in the country soon. AP is third in cargo handling and plans are afoot to make it to the top in next couple of years. 

Naidu said that they are planning to develop seven ports and urged the industrialists to make use of the vast opportunities available in the new state. Recalling his bond with CII, Naidu said that the industry captains helped him in developing undivided AP as a major industrial hub. "Now, we want you to come to AP and take lead in making it entrepreneurs' hub," he suggested. 

Later, the CM participated in a CII-sponsored conference in the city and launched a novel IT-enabled service, CodeforAP. A US-based organization is supporting the programme with services in e-governance, social development and citizen services. 

Addressing the gathering, the CM said that their recent effort to get the pilgrim feedback through IVRS system during Godavari Pushkarams worked well and the government wanted to expand the network. He wanted the CodeforAP team to not only work with government services but also come out with innovative ideas to deliver citizen services. 

CII local chapter president Dasari Ramakrishna, CodeforAP founders -- Sridhar, Bhaskar, Srinivas and Satyam Raju -- were also present.

 కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం నూతనంగా ప్రకటించిన పథకాలు నవ్యాంధ్ర రాజధానికి కలిసొస్తున్నాయి. హృదయ్‌, ప్రసాద్‌ పథకాలు నవ్యాంధ్ర రాజధాని ప్రాంతానికి కళాత్మక శోభను ఇవ్వనున్నాయి. ఈ పథకాల్లో భాగంగా రాజధాని ప్రాంతం లో చారిత్రక, పర్యాటక, ఆధ్యాత్మిక ప్రదేశాలు అత్యద్భుతంగా రూపుదిద్దుకోనున్నాయి. కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం వంద కోట్ల రూపాయలను విడుదల చేయనుంది. మంగళగిరి: కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం ప్రవేశపెట్టిన హృదయ్‌, ప్రసాద్‌ పథకాల కింద అమరావతి, వైకుంఠపురం, మల్కాపురం శివాలయం, ఉండవల్లి గుహాలయాలు, మంగళగిరి క్షేత్రం, కొండవీడు కోట, కోటప్పకొండ దేవస్థానాలను పూర్తిస్థాయిలో అభివృద్ధి చేసేందుకు సంకల్పించారు. దేవాదాయ, పర్యాటక, పురావస్తు శాఖల నుంచి ప్రతిపాదనలను కూడా కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వ శాఖలు ఇప్పటికే తెప్పించుకున్నాయి. ప్రసాద్‌ పథకం కింద తొలిదశలో కేంద్ర పర్యాటక శాఖ రూ.454 కోట్లను విడుదల చేయగా, ఆ మొత్తంలో అమరావతి పేరిట నవ్యాంధ్ర రాజధానికి సుమారు రూ.93 కోట్లు రానున్నాయి. హృదయ్‌ పథకం కింద నవ్యాంధ్ర రాజధానికి రూ.54.91 కోట్లు విడుదల కానున్నాయి. అంటే రమారమి రూ.140 కోట్లకు పైగా కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వ నిధులు నవ్యాంధ్ర రాజధానిలో ఎంపిక చేసిన ప్రాంతాల అభివృద్ధికి వినియోగపడనున్నాయి.

అమరావతిలో నవీకరణకు రూ.49.65 కోట్లు
కేంద్ర పట్టణాభివృద్ధి శాఖ ఆధ్వర్యంలో అమరావతిలో పట్టణ నవీకరణ కోసం రూ.49.65 కోట్లతో వివిధ అభివృద్ధి పనులను చేపట్టనున్నారు. అమరావతి నగర స్వాగత ద్వారాలు (నాలుగు), ప్రధాన వీధుల అభివృద్ధి, అప్రోచ్‌ రోడ్ల అభివృద్ధి, బ్యాటరీ సాయంతో నడిచే రిక్షాల ఏర్పాటు, డంపింగ్‌ గ్రౌండ్స్‌, డ్రెయినేజీ వ్యవస్థ మెరుగుదల, మురుగు జలాల శుద్ధి కేంద్రం ఏర్పాటు చేస్తారు.

కుంఠపురం అభివృద్ధికి రూ.12.05 కోట్లు

అమరావతి మండలం వైకుంఠపురంలోని శ్రీవేంకటేశ్వరస్వామి దేవస్థానం అ భివృద్ధికి రూ.12.05 కోట్లను కేటాయించారు. ఈ నిధులతో ఘాట్‌రోడ్డు అభివృద్ధి, కొండ ఎగువన ఉద్యానవనం, కొండ ఎగువన వాచ్‌టవర్‌, సో లార్‌ విద్యుత్‌ కాంతులు, ఓవర్‌హెడ్‌ ట్యాంకుతో తాగునీటి సదుపాయం, పార్కింగ్‌ ఏరి యా అభివృద్ధి తదితర నిర్మాణాలను చేపడతారు.
అమరలింగేశ్వరస్వామి కి రూ.8.52 కోట్లు
అమరలింగేశ్వరస్వామి దేవస్థానం అభివృద్ధికి రూ.8.52 కోట్లు కేటాయించారు. పర్యాటక సమాచార కేంద్రం, క్యూ కాంప్లెక్స్‌, పర్యాటకుల మౌలిక వసతుల కేంద్రం, ఆలయం చుట్టూ భూమి చదును, గ్రీనరీ, సోలార్‌ విద్యుత్‌ వ్యవస్థ, ప్రత్యేక తాగునీటి పథకం, పార్కింగ్‌ ఏరియా అభివృద్ధి, క్లాక్‌ రూమ్‌, షాపింగ్‌ కాంప్లెక్స్‌, వాచ్‌ టవర్‌, ఓపెన్‌ షెల్టర్లు ఏర్పాటు చేస్తారు. ప్రసాద్‌ పథకం కింద రూ.6 కోట్ల వ్యయంతో ఆలయానికి ఉత్తరంగా కృష్ణానది వైపు ఆర్‌సీసీ శ్లాబు నిర్మాణం గావించేందుకు ప్రతిపాదించారు. అండర్‌గ్రౌండు డ్రెయినేజీ, అమరావతి బస్టాండు వద్ద కల్యాణ మండపం, డార్మెటరీ నిర్మాణం, దేవస్థానం వద్ద మరో కల్యాణ మండపం, సౌండ్‌ అండ్‌ లైటింగ్‌ సిస్టమ్‌, డ్రెస్‌డ్‌ గ్రానైట్‌ ఫ్లోరింగ్‌, ఆలయ పరిపాలనా భవనం నిర్మాణాలకు కూడా నిధులు కేటాయించాలని కోరుతూ దేవస్థానం తరపున ప్రతిపాదనలను తయారు చేస్తున్నారు.

 

ధ్యానబుద్ధ ప్రాజెక్టుకు రూ.18.71 కోట్లు

ఈ నిధులతో ధ్యానబుద్ధ మ్యూజియం నిర్మాణ పనులను పూర్తిచేయడంతోపాటు హెరిటేజ్‌ పార్కును నిర్మిస్తారు. ప్రాజెక్టు ఆవరణలో ఉద్యానవనం, సోలార్‌ వ్యవస్థతో విద్యుత్‌ వెలుగులు, యాత్రీకుల సమాచార కేం ద్రం, మౌలిక వసతుల కేంద్రం, భోజనశాల, ప్రత్యేక తాగునీటి వసతి సదుపాయాలను కల్పిస్తారు.

కాలచక్ర మ్యూజియానికి రూ.2 కోట్లు

అమరావతిలో కాలచక్ర మ్యూజియాన్ని సౌండ్‌ అండ్‌ లేజర్‌ షోతో అభివృద్ధి చేస్తారు. మ్యూజియం కాంప్లెక్స్‌ను అభివృద్ధి చేసి పార్కింగ్‌ ఏరియాను విస్తరిస్తారు. ఇందుకోసం రూ.1.32 కోట్లను వెచ్చించనున్నారు. ధరణికోట కోటదిబ్బ ప్రాంతం చుట్టూ ప్రహరీ నిర్మాణానికి రూ. 63 లక్షలను మంజూరు చేశారు.ఘాట్ల అభివృద్ధికి రూ.13.29 కోట్లు
అమరావతిలో మూడు ఘాట్ల అభివృద్ధికి రూ.13.29 కోట్లను కేటాయించారు. ధ్యానబుద్ధ, షిరిడీసాయి దేవస్థానం, అమరలింగేశ్వరస్వామి దే వస్థానాల వద్ద ఘాట్లను అభివృద్ధి చే స్తారు. షిరిడీసాయి దేవస్థానం వద్ద ఓపెన్‌ ఎయిర్‌ థియేటర్‌ను నిర్మిస్తా రు. ధ్యానబుద్ధ ప్రాజెక్టు వద్ద బోటింగ్‌ జెట్టి ఏర్పాటుచేస్తారు. మూడు ఘాట్లను కలుపుతూ నదీ మార్గంలో నడక మార్గాన్ని ఏర్పాటు చేస్తారు.అమరావతి చెరువు అభివృద్ధికి రూ.7.29 కోట్లు
అమరావతిలోని జలాశయం అభివృద్ధికి రూ.7.29 కోట్లను కేటాయించారు. ఈ నిధులతో చెరువు పూడికతీత, చెరువు మధ్యలో వాటర్‌ ఫౌంటేన్‌, చెరువు చుట్టూ వాకింగ్‌ ట్రాక్‌, సోలార్‌ వ్యవస్థతో విద్యుత్‌ కాంతుల ఏర్పాటు, పార్కింగ్‌ ఏరియా తదితరాలను అభివృద్ధి చేస్తారు.ఉండవల్లి గుహాలయాలకు రూ.1.37 కోట్లు
తాడేపల్లి మండలం ఉండవల్లిలోని చారిత్రక గుహాలయాల అభివృద్ధికి రూ.1.37 కోట్లను కేటాయించారు. గుహాలయాల వద్ద అప్రోచ్‌ రోడ్ల అభివృద్ధి, పర్యాటకుల సమాచార కేంద్రం, టికెట్‌ కౌంటరు, తాగునీటి వసతి, సోలార్‌ వ్యవస్థతో విద్యుత్‌ వెలుగులు, షాపుల నిర్మాణం చేపడతారు.

మహాచైత్యం అభివృద్ధికి రూ.3.26 కోట్లు
బౌద్ధ మహాచైత్యం అభివృద్ధికి ప్రత్యేకంగా రూ.3.26 కోట్లను కేటాయించారు. ఈ నిధులతో మహాచైత్యం చుట్టూ చక్కని ఉద్యానవనాన్ని నిర్మించడంతోపాటు పర్యాటక సమాచార కేంద్రం, టికెట్‌ కౌంటరు, ప్రత్యేక తాగునీటి సదుపాయం, పార్కింగ్‌ ఏరియాను
అభివృద్ధి చేస్తారు.
