mtkr
Santoshi Matsa gets silver, bronze for Swati Singh as Nigeria's Amalaha stripped of gold GLASGOW: Nigeria teenager Chika Amalaha has been stripped of her Commonwealth Games weightlifting gold medal after failing a doping test, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) said on Friday. The 16-year-old, who won gold in the women's women's 53kg competition, provided positive 'A' and 'B' samples that contained prohibited diuretics and masking agents. "The Commonwealth Games Federation has determined that Nigerian weightlifter, Chika Amalaha, has committed an anti-doping rule violation and has fully suspended her from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow," the CGF said in a statement. "As a result, Ms Amalaha has been disqualified from her event at the Games, with her result in the Women's Weightlifting 53 kilogram competition nullified." Dika Toua from Papua New Guinea has been awarded the gold medal with Indian duo Santoshi Matsa and Swati Singh claiming silver and bronze. Amalaha was Nigeria's first gold medal winner in Glasgow, equalling the Games snatch record of 82kg with her first attempt before lifting 85kg on her third. Her combined total of 196kg was also a Games record, and according to the International Weightlifting Federation she was the youngest women to win a weightlifting title in Games history. mtkr
Seema Punia clinches silver medal for India!!!! Athletics -- India's Seema Punia wins silver medal with a season-best throw of 61.61m in the Women's Discus Throw Final while the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Krishna Poonia finishes a dismal fifth with a best throw of 57.84m Indian discus thrower Seema Punia won the silver medal with her season's best performance while her compatriot and defending champion Krishna Poonia finished a disappointing fifth at the Commonwealth Games on Friday. It was the second medal for India from track and field, a day after men's discus thrower Vikas Gowda won the historic gold at the Hampden Park Stadium. Seema hurled the disc to 61.61 metres to win the silver. She had won the bronze in the 2010 Games where India clinched all the three medals from the event. Seema had also won the silver in the 2006 Melbourne Games. The gold went to 2009 World Champion Dani Samuels of Australia and England's Jade Lally took the bronze. Samuels, who had skipped the Delhi Games citing security reasons, was no where near her season and personal best of 67.99m but a throw of 64.88m was enough to seal the gold. English girl Jade got the bronze with her season's best of 60.48m. The 2010 Delhi Games' champion Krishna was struggling right from the start and barely managed to make the cut for the final round, finishing a lowly 11th among the top-12. Krishna finished fifth in the final with a throw of 57.84m.
