Andhra Pradesh Labour Minister Atchan Naidu on Friday demanded an apology from the Telangana government over the filing of criminal case against two AP officials, even as State Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao lodged a complaint with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.

Following a complaint from a Telangana official that funds belonging to the AP Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board were diverted to banks in Vijayawada without the knowledge of the Telangana government, the police registered a case and questioned two board members.

Talking to reporters at separate press conferences, Mr. Naidu and AP Government’s Communications Advisor Parakala Prabhakar maintained that the AP government did not commit any wrong and said the funds transferred pertained to AP’s share. As per the AP State Reorganisation Act, the funds in the Welfare Board were to be shared in the ratio 58:42 between AP and Telangana. Mr. Prabhakar sought the intervention of the Centre on the issue.

They said that as of June 2, the appointed day, the board had Rs. 1,463 crore, including Rs. 850 crore and Rs. 613 crore for AP and Telangana, respectively. But now, the total amount in banks and public deposit accounts in the Telangana geography was Rs. 689 crore, that was Rs. 76 crore more than the share of Telangana. “We have not taken a paisa of theirs,” he asserted and pointed out that the whole board was still under the jurisdiction of AP as bifurcation and division of the board’s assets were yet to take place.

‘Intimidation tactics’
Telangana government officials had wrongly interpreted the action of AP officials, they said, adding that a clarification on any doubts was just a phone call away, condemning the ‘intimidation tactics’ adopted by Telangana government officials. They accused the TRS government of provoking people as it had failed to fulfil its pre-poll promises. The people of Telangana should realise this as they had lot of expectations from the government.
