Under-Rated Dc Heroes

Shazam
XqHtLbSg.pngXqHtLbSg.png

Pretty much Supes in every way except that Shazam is not weak to Kryptonite. He has powers that come from six different ancient Gods who give him super strengh, speed, stamina, you name it. Billy Batson, local kid, only has to say the word "Shazam" and he is transformed into the awesome superhero that is Shazam. Shazam is not completely invulnerable. In several stories, he is shown to be susceptible to high-powered magic, which can weaken him and, in some older stories, to significantly high voltages of lightning or electricity, which would revert him back to Billy Batson. A lot of times his biggest weakness can be his childlike innocence and immaturity. He is just a kid after all.

Captain Atom
aE0uOA0.jpg

Air Force pilot Nathaniel Adam was used as a test subject in a scientific experiment and wound up disintegrated in the process (ouch), only to reappear later as Captain Atom. He is now blessed with superhuman abilities. Captain Atom's atoms are constantly splitting and then reforming just as quickly, releasing massive amounts of energy. This surplus of power can be manipulated in a number of ways such as flight, super strength, pretty much anything he wants. Captain Atom has been seen to transform lava into snow and has been able to remove cancer from a human being. He can also absorb massive amounts of energy and re-use it as a weapon. One of a few characters who has the POTENTIAL to defeat Superman fairly easily, due to the ability to absorb radiation from a red sun and use it against Superman. Not that he would ever do that of course.

Red Tornado
YNmZgPM.jpg

Red Tornado is a seriously under-loved hero, His own comic universe doesn't love him very much. Red Tornado is a highly intelligent android possessing superior strength and durability, and capable of creating bursts of cyclone-force winds that enable flight, enhanced speed and the creation of storms. The character can also access information from any foreign computer system. Red Tornado's body is composed of microscopic nanites and he possesses the ability to change from android to human form at will. He is not very loved because when DC did their New 52 reboot, they did not include Red Tornado. Please hold back the tears.

Big Barda
1dIr0Lsg.jpg1dIr0Lsg.jpg

Now this is one bad ass chick! She was born about 250 years ago, on the evil planet, Apokolips. She was taken from her family by Granny Goodness and trained to be a warrior. Barda is a New God, a race of people who evolved into genetically advanced beings thanks to their proximity to the Source. She possesses superhuman strength that puts her into the same strength class as Superman and Wonder Woman. She is also highly resistant to blunt force trauma, temperature and pressure extremes, and is bulletproof. Her Apokoliptan physiology prevents her from aging and makes her immune to disease. She is a master combatant, having been trained in all forms of Apokiliptian warfare. Her skill and strength is so good that she has fought Wonder Woman to a draw. Barda also wields a high tech weapon of Apokoliptan origin called a "Mega-Rod." This rod is capable of producing extremely powerful concussive bolts capable of defeating beings as durable as Superman. It also allows Barda to teleport herself and others long distances, can increase gravitational forces, and can be used as an indestructible club in melee combat. Like I said, a bad ass.

Martian Manhunter
ldnbqsGg.jpgldnbqsGg.jpg

A little more known hero thanks to the Justice League show but J'onn J'onzz still doesn't get enough love. He is one of the most calm and composed members of the League as well as one of the wisest. When the league often comes to disagreements about whats to be done, Manhunter is always the one to point the team in the right direction. The fact that he can shapeshift and phase on top of super strength and pretty much every other super power, is just amazing! Even Superman is in awe of Manhunter. "I can count on one hand the number of beings in the known universe I would be afraid to face in open combat. J'onn J'onzz is at the top of that list. He is the most powerful being on the face of the earth." -A quote from Superman when he is speaking to the Flash. Along with many super powers, Manhunter is also an expert detective. As Batman mentions in one of his files, "in many ways, Martian Manhunter is like an amalgam of Superman and the Dark Knight himself." Manhunter is no fan of fire. Fire is his biggest weakness just as Kryptonite is to Supes. It causes him to lose focus and breaks down his powers. Despite this, he is more than capable of handling his own against pretty much anyone.

Doctor Fate
Mq15HCug.jpgMq15HCug.jpg

Doctor Fate was one of the co-founders of the Justice League. Fate possesses various magical powers such as spellcasting, flight, super-strength, invulnerability, telekinesis, telepathy, fire manipulation and lightning manipulation. Fate's magic manifests in the shape of Egyptian hieroglyphs. He received his powers from Nabu the Wise who took pity on him after his father died during an archaeological dig. Doctor Fate is one of the most powerful magic users in the entire DC universe.

The Atom
fE2jtqW.jpg

University professor Ray Palmer discovered the ability to shrink things once he studied a fallen white dwarf star. He used this ability to shrink himself and he became the hero known as The Atom. Atom possesses the power to alter his size down to the subatomic level while retaining his natural strength level. The Atom is one of the few heroes in the DC Universe that has 100% control over his body on the molecular level (Plastic Man and The Flash being examples of others). This makes him significantly more powerful than he is often portrayed. He is limited only by his application of his powers. Some of his abilities include reducing his mass to glide through the air (simulating flight), and increasing his mass to punch through concrete. He's also demonstrated the ability to make his costume appear and disappear at will by shifting its atoms between dimensions. He has been shown to be able to ride phone lines to his destination by dialing a number and traveling through the handset, and recently shrinking small enough to travel on photon signals through fiber optic cable. Thats got to be a pretty convenient way to travel.

Zatanna
MjiAsJB.jpg

Zatanna is one of the most powerful sorceresses in the DC universe, whose abilities are apparently genetic. She started out as being a stage performing magician and later progressed her abilities and used them for good. As a tribute to her father and as a focal point, she usually casts spells by speaking verbal commands backwards. She has however proven capable on many occasions of casting spells by speaking normally. Like Black Canary, Zatanna's reliance on her voice has often led to her being bound and gagged by villains, thus rendering her "powerless". One of the best looking heroines in not just the DCU, but all comics, which is probably why she has had relationships with some of the major heroes like Batman, Constantine, and Etrigan the Demon.

Booster Gold
z8hZTHOg.jpgz8hZTHOg.jpg

Booster Gold started out as a showboat from the future, using knowledge of historical events and futuristic technology to perform amazing heroics in today's world. He did this so that he could show off to everyone and prove that he is the world's greatest hero. Booster has no super powers but gained his "powers" from the artifacts he stole from a museum in the future. A power suit grants him super strength and wrist blasters allow him to project force blasts. His wrist blasters contain the primary controls and power supply for his suit as well as communications equipment. Circuitry from a force field belt allows Booster to resist physical and energy attacks, and he uses the force field to repel objects with great force and generate a breathable self-contained environment. Booster's goggles have infrared and magnifying capabilities. In addition to the powers from his suit, Booster can fly thanks to a Legion of Super-Heroes flight ring. Though he started out as a show off, he eventually learned what it meant to be a true hero. He also has a bad ass flying robot sidekick named Skeets.

Aquaman
hkDzsObg.jpghkDzsObg.jpg

In my opinion, Aquaman is the most under-rated DC hero there is. Often the butt of superhero jokes, people don't realize the true power that the Atlantian King posseses. Aquaman is one of the founders of the Justice League. Yes he can talk to fish but his telepathic powers can also control anything that lives around or is evolved from the sea, that means humans too. He has an indestructible trident that controls water and fires blasts of energy as well as being a great stabby weapon. His trident is the only known physical weapon that punctured Darkseid and made him bleed out. It is also the only Earthly weapon that can penetrate Superman's skin. After the loss of his left hand, Aquaman replaced it with a cybernetic retractable hook, and then a cybernetic hand. The mechanical hand was replaced by a magical hand made out of water that was given to him by the Lady of the Lake. It grants Aquaman numerous abilities, including: the ability to dehydrate anyone he touches and killing them instantly, the ability to shoot jets of water from his hand, scalding or freezing, healing abilities, the ability to create portals into mystical dimensions, controlling any body of water he sets his focuses on. He is such a bad ass that he is also married to a bad ass heroine. He married Mera, and along with being a fellow water-breather who is stronger than she looks, she is a pretty good fighter and a hydro-kinetic as well. He is king of not only Atlantis, but also the seven seas, which means he is king of 70% of the Earth. He can also travel through time and space. One time travel journey took him to the planet Neptune in the 853rd century, where he participated in a form of interplanetary Olympics and then saved the entire planet from an alien menace. Many superheroes patrol streets looking for carjackers, muggers and drug dealers. Aquaman regularly guards Earth from the "Night Gods", ancient monsters and demons that try to invade the planet through hidden doorways. Basically, he fights Cthulhu every year at around the same time and wins. He. Is. A. Badass!
