nissan Posted December 12, 2016 Report Posted December 12, 2016 read this May 8, 2014 Helpful (2) "Poor work culture" StarStarStarStarStar Current Employee - Mobile Developer in Plano, TX Doesn't Recommend Negative Outlook I have been working at Barclays full-time (More than a year) Pros This place is good if you want to gain some banking experience. The projects are led by a competent technical team in the UK. Cons The work environment here is not too good. Basically the entire management here is from Verizon. It is a pretty well known fact that Verizon has pretty bad reputation in the Dallas region as far as work culture goes. Its pretty much the same here. This place has way too many redundant managers who seem to have gotten here just because they were all friends with each other at Verizon. The main management for the projects is in the UK which does a good job of maintaining a process. The Plano center mainly develops the requirements passed down from the UK, it does not have projects of its own. The managers here have zero control over the timelines, deliverables, new features, etc. This also means that this place is at the mercy of a projects from the UK. This has resulted in many layoffs recently as a result of there being less work and budget cuts. They are now also outsourcing most of the work to TCS in India. This is not the best place to be for job security.Show Less Quote

The overhead of people that do not do any real work is absurd. for every productive developer, there are 20 people that do nothing but shuffle paper, plan tasks, update project plans, enter tickets for requests for work, create reports for managing up, create videos for managing down. It really is amazing that so much money can be spent on such unproductive activities for so long that no one cares. Freddie Mac is the most expensive software development shop in the US."But, what the Hell? No one cares, the H1B visa folks have moved beyond their beachhead and now dominate the IT organziation and ensure long-term employment for themselves, and the contract vendors make a bundle - what's not to like taxpayers??? Couldn't argue against that.. Quote
