JANASENA
One of the most critically acclaimed actors in Bollywood, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has come out with a powerful message in defense of both of art and religious tolerance. The actor, who won the Special Jury prize at the National Film Awards in 2012, published a 55-second video on his Instagram page. Without talking and through the use of placards, he explains to everyone that he recently had a DNA test done to adjudge which religion he belonged to. In the ‘DNA test’ he found out that he was 16.66% Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist and 16.66% part of every other religion in the world. But then he goes on to note that, “When I discovered my soul, I found I am 100% an artist.” The video, which he has titled, 16.66, has gone viral within hours of it having been posted. Thousands have taken to the comments section to commend the actor for taking a graceful approach to a very sensitive subject. The actor’s video comes during a contentious period wherein many in the film industry and the public are weighing in on what constitutes to religious freedom. Singer Sonu Nigam is in the eye of controversy having criticised Azaan as forced religiousness. It has sparked a polarising debate on social media and among public personalities since. lazybugger
what did he say? If he was half as ridiculous as Sonu Nigam was, he'd be beaten on the streets right now. So I'm guessing he was awesome. In current Indian climate, you have to be an awesome muslim to get the same treatment that a Hindu with a motor mouth gets. Well normal muslims, s0rry. tough luck. you have higher standards to live up to.
