Good point. 

I expressed the same sentiment since a long time and also support a separate Southern Indian nation. However the reality is that there's no concept of a unified South.

I would say, Southern India should actually form an alliance with China. China isn't an enemy of us, China became an opponent of India due to the failed foreign policies of the previous Indian governments. We can work towards supporting China's hegemony in the Asia Pacific region. Let's face it we are light years behind China when it comes to development and infrastructure, instead of fighting with them we could use their help in advancing the Southern Indian nation. 

China is a better friend of Southern India than Northern India ever was and ever could be.

Look at Californian example in US : They together form 25% of American economy, contribute a lot as a single state than entire 49 states put together....but just because they form major chunk of the economy, CA by themselves is a silly notion. This itself is called as federal principle...states should be stronger for a stronger country and they should contribute and aid for the cause...
