He quit Congress in February 2014, opposing the bifurcation of the State

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, who had resigned from the Congress in protest against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, rejoined the party on Friday after meeting its president, Rahul Gandhi, at the latter's residence.

Soon after the meeting, the Congress organised a formal event at the party headquarters to welcome and felicitate Mr. Reddy and held a press conference.

The former Chief Minister said "unless there is a Congress government in Delhi, the Andhra Pradesh [Reorganization] Act cannot be implemented”.

"In spite of four years, the BJP government has failed to implement the special status category. An assurance given in the House is the will of the government, otherwise, people will lose confidence with Parliament," he told reporters.

Both the Central and State governments failed to honour the commitments made by the Manmohan Singh government. Whether it was the question of setting up 11 universities or creating a separate railway zone or the Pollavaram project, the promised have not been fufillled, he said.

Query on Telangana creation

When asked about his opposition to the creation of Telangana, Mr. Reddy offered a guarded response. "What has happened has happened. Now we have to see how we can help the Telugu people going forward,"he said.

Mr. Reddy pointed out that both he and his father had been four-term MLAs and thanked the party. "I am very happy to be coming back to the Congress family. With whatever little I can work for the party, I will make sure to strengthen Congress president Rahul Gandhi,"he said.

Welcoming him, Congress general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh, Ommen Chandy, said the party would be strengthened with Mr. Reddy rejoining it.

Asked if he is looking at any party posts, Mr. Reddy said, "I have joined today as an ordinary worker. Let the leadership decided on those decisions."

దిల్లీ: కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీతో తన బంధం విడదీయలేనిదని మాజీ ముఖ్యమంత్రి కిరణ్‌కుమార్‌రెడ్డి అన్నారు. ఈరోజు దిల్లీలో ఏఐసీసీ అధ్యక్షుడు రాహుల్‌గాంధీ సమక్షంలో ఆయన కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీలో తిరిగి చేరారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా నిర్వహించిన మీడియా సమావేశంలో ఆయన మాట్లాడారు.

‘మా కుటుంబానికి కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీతోనే గుర్తింపు వచ్చింది. నా తండ్రి నాలుగుసార్లు, నేను నాలుగుసార్లు శాసనసభ్యుడిగా గెలిచామంటే అది కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీ వల్లే.‌ గాంధీ కుటుంబంతో సన్నిహితంగా మెలగడం వల్లనే నేను చీఫ్‌ విప్‌, స్పీకర్‌, ముఖ్యమంత్రి వంటి పదవులు అనుభవించగలిగాను. నేను వైఎస్‌కు అత్యంత సన్నిహితుడిని. కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీలోకి తిరిగి రావడం సంతోషంగా ఉంది. కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీ ఏ బాధ్యత అప్పగించినా సమర్థంగా నిర్వహిస్తా. కాంగ్రెస్‌ వీడిన 30-40 మంది నేతలను తిరిగి తీసుకొచ్చేందుకు ప్రయత్నాలు చేస్తున్నాం’

‘వచ్చే ఎన్నికల్లో కేంద్రంలో కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీ అధికారంలోకి వస్తేనే విభజన హామీలు నెరవేరతాయి. ఏపీకి ప్రత్యేకహోదా కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీ వల్లే సాధ్యం. పార్లమెంటులో నాటి ప్రధాని ఇచ్చిన హామీలను ఎన్డీయే ప్రభుత్వం అపహాస్యం చేసింది. విభజన చట్టం అమల్లో మోదీ ప్రభుత్వం పూర్తిగా విఫలమైంది. విభజన చట్టం అమల్లో అధికార, ప్రతిపక్ష పార్టీలు విఫలమయ్యాయి. విభజన చట్టాన్ని రూపొందించిన కాంగ్రెస్‌ పార్టీ అధికారంలోకి రాగానే దాన్ని అమలు చేసేందుకు సిద్దంగా ఉంది’ అని కిరణ్‌కుమార్‌రెడ్డి అన్నారు.
