Yo! Mostly water weight untadi, muscle lo 1 glycogen molecule toh 3g of water bonding untadi. Keto or VMD or whatever you do, when you restrict carbs(which is glucose) body utilizes glycogen for energy . Initially mottam glycogen storage deplete aipotundi, there may be some fat and muscle loss too  (given if you don't strength train). Normally keto is Muscle sparing diet if you strength train. Muscle loss aithey metabolism slow aipotundi which internally will cause more fat retention in future. Mottam glycogen deplete ayyaka fat buring start avtundi.. So the loss your family people are seeing is mostly water if they are very obese. The moment they start eating carbs they will gain glycogen bonded with water molecules. Malli weigh gain ankuntaru, its indeed water gain.  Tell them to not get fascinated by losing quickly in few days as they are bound to gain more. Rather than torching themselves, they can go for a prolonged approach of healthy balanced diet + Exercise.

If Fat is taken in measured quantity according to approx BMR calories it shouldn't be a problem. Quantitative approach follow kakunda chestey its risky for aged people.
