Phone is good to capture pictures  for short moments. Not good for event photography.

Phone megapixel is very small and it will be only good to watch the pictures on phone itself. if you want to process the picture take on phone seperately, there will lot of nosie in the picture which will damage the quality of the picture.

Where in a buying and using a camera is a different ball game all together.

you can twist and play around and capture some beautiful pcitures and do some photo shopping  to enchance the quality of the picture.

So now you decide.
