Anta Assamey Posted March 27, 2019 Report Share Posted March 27, 2019 In a counter move to the Election Commission ordering the transfer of three police officials in the state of Andhra Pradesh, the Government of Andhra Pradesh shocked everyone with its Government Order (GO) bringing the entire state police force under the Election Commission. This move by the state government has come as a relief to Intelligence Chief A.B. Venkateswara Rao, whose transfer has been stalled. According to the GO, every police personnel, from the DGP to a constable, will now fall under the EC limits. 'Under Section 28-A of the Representation of People Act, 1951, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has designated the following Police Officers in the State for the purpose of Law & Order and other duties connected with the conduct of General Elections to House of the People and Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly scheduled to be held on 11.04.2019 (Thursday),' the GO mentioned. In its GO, the state government exempted the Intelligence, ACB, Vigilance and other sections in the police dependent from the election duties. That means, the orders of Election Commission to remove intelligence DG may not be valid. This GO will continue to exist until the counting process is over in Andhra Pradesh. The polling for 25 MP seats and 175 assembly seats will take place in the state on April 11th while the counting and results will be out on May 23rd. As a consequence, the government has sought SPs of Srikakulam and Kadapa to relieve themselves of their duties with immediate effect, while it has not relieved the Intelligence chief.
