COVID-19 cases in Muzaffarnagar rise to five

Another person tested positive for novel coronavirus in Muzaffarnagar on Saturday, taking the number of confirmed cases in the Uttar Pradesh district to five, reports PTI. According to Chief Medical Officer Praveen Chopra, the man is among the 13 Tablighi Jamaat members who were quarantined last Saturday. They had come to the Kidwai Nagar locality a fortnight ago and were later quarantined. One of them tested positive, taking the number of infections in the district to five, the official said. Meanwhile, efforts are on to seal the locality where the 13 members resided.

101 hotspots identified in Telangana

The Telangana health department in a statement said that 101 hotspots had been identified in the state as the number of active cases rose to 393. Fifty-one patients were discharged today while the two succumbed to the infection. Six testing labs are operational across the state, it said.

Tamil Nadu tally surges to 969

Tamil Nadu on Saturday recorded one more COVID-19 death, taking the toll from the virus to 10, reports PTI. The latest death was reported from Erode district, Chief Secretary K Shanmugam said. Further, 58 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in the state on Saturday, with the total number of positive cases reaching 969.Of this, 881 people were those who had attended the "single source event" in Delhi and their contacts, the government said, in an apparent reference to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in the national capital.

UK's toll nears 10,000 as PM Johnson makes 'very good progress'

Britain’s COVID-19 death toll neared 10,000 on Saturday after health officials reported another 917 hospital deaths, reports Reuters. Britain has now reported 9,875 deaths from the corona virus pandemic, the fifth highest national number globally, and Saturday’s increase was the second day running that the number to die had increased by more than 900.

Almost 80,000 people in Britain have tested positive for the virus, among them Johnson, who is in the early stages of recovery on a hospital ward after spending three nights in intensive care. “The prime minister continues to make very good progress,” a Downing Street spokesman said.

BULANDSHAHR DOCTOR DIES OF COVID-19 IN DELHI'S SAFDARJUNG HOSPITAL 

The Bulandshahr-based Ayurveda doctor in Uttar Pradesh, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, died at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi on Friday. His clinic in Bulandshahr was sealed and all its staff have been quarantined.

Another hospital in the city where he was admitted on 7 April has also been sealed as a preventive measure.

Bulandshahr doctor dies of COVID-19 in Delhi; family alleges cremation delayed

 A middle-aged doctor from Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr has died due to coronavirus at a hospital, reports PTI.The family of the 58-year-old doctor has alleged that when his body was taken for cremation at the Nigambodh Ghat in the National Capital on Saturday, they had to "wait for many hours" before it could finally be done.
 
The man was brought to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi from a facility in Bulandshahr, and he died in the emergency ward, an official source said. His sample was taken which tested positive on Saturday, the source said.
 
The wife and son of the deceased man alleged that they had to face a "lot of hassles" at the Nigambodh Ghat.The cremation was to be done in a CNG-based crematorium, but there was no operator there and people were trying to avoid us, the wife alleged. Finally, after a couple of hours, an operator came from Bawana and the cremation could be carried out, she said.

Over 17,000 samples tested today, 600 return positive: ICMR

According to ICMR's 9 pm update on Saturday, 17,143 samples were tested of which 600 were positive for SARS-CoV-2. Overall, 1,79,374 samples from 1,64,773 individuals have been tested till date and 7,703 individuals have tested positive for the disease among suspected cases and contacts of known  positive cases in the country, it said.

Pakistan to take decision on lock down on Monday as cases cross 5,000 mark

Pakistan said on Saturday that it will take a decision on whether to extend the ongoing nationwide lock down or ease restrictions on Monday, as the number of corona virus patients rose to 5,011, reports PTI.Speaking at a press conference here, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will take a decision after his meeting with the National Coordination Committee on COVID-19, comprising senior officials of all provinces and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). "We will make a national decision on the lock down," said Umar.
 
The official data posted by the Ministry of National Health services on its website showed that the worst-hit Punjab province reported 2,414 COVID-19 cases, Sindh 1,318, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 697, Balochistan 220, Gilgit-Baltistan 215, Islamabad 113 and PoK 34. It also reported that 762 patients have recovered so far. Seventy-seven patients have died including five in the last 24 hours. The official data showed that 52 percent patents were those who had traveled abroad while 48 per cent were local transmissions.

Odisha records four new cases; state to have 2 new COVID-19 hospitals

The Odisha health department on Saturday said four new cases were detected in the state. The state is all set to have two new COVID-19 hospitals with a total capacity of 300 beds very soon as a part of its preparedness to tackle the corona virus pandemic, PTI quotes officials as saying.The hospitals, for treatment of COVID-19 patients only, will come up in association with National Aluminium Company (NALCO) and Paradip Port Trust (PPT). 

Odisha has already set up 10 dedicated COVID-19 hospitals with a total bed strength of 1,950 and these two facilities will raise the capacity to 2,250 beds. The state plans to establish around 34 exclusive COVID-19 hospitals with a capacity of 6,000 beds, the official said.

India registers 273 COVID-19 deaths, 8,356 confirmed cases

India's COVID-19 toll rose to 273 on Sunday after 34 people died due to the novel corona virus in the past 24 hours. The total number confirmed cases reached 8,356 after 34 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported. 

This figure includes 7,367 active cases along with 716 cases that saw recovery and 273 deaths, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Agra registers 104 COVID-19 cases

Twelve fresh cases of the novel corona virus were reported in Uttar Pradesh's Agra, taking the tally to 104 in the city, ANI reported.

15 new COVID-19 cases in Dharavi take tally to 43, says report

The total number of corona virus cases rose to 43 in Dharavi, in south Mumbai, after 15 new cases were reported in the locality, News18 reported.

The virus has so far claimed four lives in the area. Police personnel has also been deployed to check the contagion. 

On Saturday, Maharashtra Medical Council officials began door-to-door testing of nearly a million residents of Dharavi. Over the next 10 days, the team of doctors and civic officials will conduct thermal screening of the residents.

West Bengal govt to sanitise state secretariat 

The West Bengal government has decided to shut and sanitise its secretariat Nabanna on Sunday and Monday in view of the novel corona virus, according to chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

The secretariat is located on the bank of river Hooghly in Howrah district where a number of positive cases have been reported.

"We will sanitise Nabanna. It has not been sanitised for some time. So, it will remain closed on Sunday and Monday," Mamata told the media in Kolkata on Saturday.

China reports highest COVID-19 tally with 100 cases in recent weeks

China has reported 99 new corona virus cases, the highest in a single day in recent weeks, and 63 fresh asymptomatic infections, taking the total number of patients in the country to 82,052, health officials said on Saturday, amid concerns about a second wave of the pandemic.

According to China's National Health Commission (NHC), as of Saturday, a total of 1,280 imported cases were reported in China. Of the cases, 481 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 799 were being treated with 36 in severe condition.

It said 99 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported on the Chinese mainland on Saturday, of which 97 were from people returning from abroad.

Rajasthan records 751 COVID-19 cases after 51 more test positive

Rajasthan recorded 51 fresh cases of the novel corona virus on Sunday, ANI reported. According to the state health department, 15 cases were found in Banswara, 15 in Jaipur, 8 in Bikaner, 8 in Jodhpur, 2 in Haunmangarh, one each in Churu, Jaisalmer and Sikar. 

Total positive cases in the state rose to 751.

Seven people who came in contact with Tablighi Jamaat members test positive in Korba dist

Seven individuals who came in contact with 16 Tablighi Jamaat members staying at a mosque in Katghora town of Chhattisgarh, have tested positive for the novel corona virus, taking the number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 25, an official said on Sunday.

The latest cases are from the Purani Basti locality of Katghora town in Korba district, the official said.
