Tamil Nadu tally crosses 1,000 mark

With 106 more persons testing positive for the corona virus today, the total number of  COVID-19 patients in the state has gone up to 1,075, ANI quotes state health scretary Beela Rajesh as saying. Rajesh said of the 106 new cases, as many as 16 had "inter-state travel" history and the remaining were their contacts. 971 of the total can be traced to a single source and there have been 11 deaths so far, the official added.

Karnataka reports 17 new cases, total rises to 232

17 new cases were detected in Karnataka today, taking the tally to 232, according to the 5 pm update released by the state health department.Contact tracing to identify source of infection for five patients from Vijayapura district is underway, said the department. The total includes 6 deaths and 54 discharges.

Confirmed cases surge to 8,447

According to the latest update provided by the Union health ministry, the number of coronavirus cases in the country has jumped to 8,447 while the toll has reached 273. 764 persons have been cured so far, while one has migrated. The highest number of cases has been reported from Maharashtra (1,761 cases) while Delhi has 1,069 cases.

Two elderly COVID-19 patients die in Ahmedabad

 
Two more coronavirus positive patients died in Ahmedabad on Sunday, taking the total death toll in Gujarat to 24, PTI quotes a health department official as saying. The deceased included a 60-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man. "Both of them died at civil hospital in Ahmedabad," said Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi. While the woman was suffering from a lung disease, the man had high blood pressure, Ravi said.
 
"With the latest deaths, the total number of the deceased in Ahmedabad rose to 12 and 24 in the state. As of now, at least four COVID-19 patients are on ventilator andcontinue to be in a critical condition," Ravi said.

Cases in Delhi jump to 1,154; five more succumb to disease

85 new COVID19 positive cases and five deaths were reported in Delhi on Saturday, taking the total number of positive cases in the National Capital to 1,154, and the toll 24, said the state health department. Of the 85 new cases, 26 had a history of foreign travel or had come into contact with a patient, 34 were found as part of the Special Operations while 25 positive cases were "under investigation."

95 COVID-19 cases recorded in West Bengal till date

Total number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 95 in West Bengal and seven deaths have been reported in the state till date, said the state health department.

New York City records over 1 lakh COVID-19 cases, more than China and UK

New York City, the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, now alone has over 100,000 novel coronavirus cases, more than the confirmed cases in China and the UK, according to the official data.

According to the data from the New York City government, an increase of at least 5,695 cases on Sunday put New York City's total number of coronavirus infections at over 1,04,410 as of 12 April and 27,676 hospitalisations. The city's death count stood at 6,898.

Rajasthan registers 815 COVID-19 cases after 11 more test positive

With 11 more individuals testing positive for COVID-19 in Rajasthan, the state tally for the novel coronavirus rose to 815, an official said on Monday. So far the virus has claimed 11 lives in the state 

"As many as 11 new cases have come up on Monday, including 10 in Bharatpur and one in Banswara district of the state," Additional Chief Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said.

India likely to open some crucial industries amid lockdown, say sources

India is planning to restart some manufacturing industries after 15 April to help offset the economic damage of a nationwide corona virus lockdown, two government sources said, even as it weighs extending the lockdown.

The 21-day lockdown of India’s more than 1.3 billion people is due to end on Tuesday, but the government is widely expected to extend it until the end of the month, with the number of coronavirus cases rising to 9,152, and the domestic death toll reaching 308, on Monday.

One of the sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed some ministries to come up with plans to open up some crucial industries as the livelihoods of the poor were being hit.

Nagaland reports first COVID-19 case

Nagaland reported first case of the novel coronavirus on Monday after a man with COVID-like symptoms, who was admitted to a hospital in Assam's Guwahati, tested positive, an official said. 

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also tweeted that a private hospital in Dimapur referred a patient to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital after he was found with symptoms of COVID-19.

Two fresh COVID-19 cases in Bokaro take Jharkhand tally to 19

Two more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Bokaro district, taking the number of cases in Jharkhand to 19, an official said on Monday. Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Kumar said two men, one aged 68 and another 45, tested positive for the infection on Sunday night.

The patients, who hail from Bokaro district's Sadam village, are relatives of the 72-year-old man who died of the respiratory disease on 8 April, he said.

With the two fresh cases, the total count in Bokaro went up to eight, Kumar said.
