Samples of 2 patients hospitalised in Noida test negative

The latest samples of two coronavirus patients, taken after 14 days in isolation at a hospital in Nodia, were negative for COVID-19 and they could be discharged if the same result is seen in the final test to be done in two days, officials said on Wednesday.

Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh has so far recorded 11 positive cases of coronavirus, of which one person has already been discharged after treatment, district health officials said.

Two men were hospitalised at Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida when they tested positive for coronavirus. They underwent another test after 14 days and the result of that is negative. Now one more test will be done on them in 48 hours and if they again test negative for it then they will be discharged,î Chief Medical Officer Anurag Bhargava told PTI.

By Tuesday evening, 362 samples were sent for coronavirus test from Gautam Buddh Nagar, of which 11 have resulted positive and 259 negative. Results for 93 samples were awaited, according to health department data.

Gujarat store enforces social distancing

As people queued outside stores to stock up essentials after a 21-day nationwide lockdown was imposed from Wednesday onwards, a shop in Mundra, Gujarat drew boxes for waiting customers to stand in as they waited their turns.

After the lockdown was announced, long queues were seen outsides stores, raising concerns about the lack of social distancing leading to the spread of COVID-19.

No shortage of essential commodities during lockdown, says Kejriwal

In a press briefing, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the people not to panic about the availability of essential commodities during the 21-day nationwide lockdown. "We will issues E-passes for those providing essential services, so that they can open their shops and factories for these services," he said.

"We have to ensure that we don't step out of our houses. It is our (the government's) responsibility to ensure that shops open and commodities like vegetables, milk, medicines and other products reach you," Kejriwal added.

Further, a helpline number 011-23469536 to reach the police commissioner's office has been announced for use by those facing any non-cooperation or lack of help from the cops.

Maharashtra's first COVID-19 patient recovers

A Pune-based couple, who were the first coronavirus patients in Maharashtra, have now twice tested negative for the deadly coronavirus and are set to be discharged from hospital on Wednesday, Livemint reported. 

"Their first samples after 14 days of isolation period tested negative on Monday. The repeat samples were sent in next 24 hours on Tuesday and in that also, the couple tested negative," an official from the Pune civic body's health department said. 

The couple and their daughter were part of a 40-member tourist group that returned to Mumbai from Dubai on March 1.

Experts peg India's cost of COVID-19 lockdown at Rs 9.11  lakh cr

Pegging the cost of the COVID-19 lockdown at $120 billion (approximately Rs 9.11 lakh crore) or 4 per cent of the GDP, analysts on Wednesday sharply cut their growth estimates and stressed on the need to announce an economic package.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which is scheduled to announce its first bi-monthly policy review on April 3, is set to deliver a deep rate cuts and it should also be assumed that the fiscal deficit targets will be breached, analysts said.

Maharashtra count shoots up to 116 as 5 more test positive in Sangli

In Maharashtra, the total number of COVID-19 patients shot up to 116 on Wednesday after five of a family tested positive for coronavirus in Sangli. The family had come in contact with a coronavirus carrier unknowingly. Furthermore, four people from Mumbai tested positive for the virus due to a direct travel history or contacts, Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said.
