That's only basic adwords revenue, basically revenue from the ads that show up before the videos or banner ads that show up during the vide....and if you include the revenue from sponsorships and affiliate marketing , it'll be way higher..

How Much Does YouTube Pay You For 1 Million Views?

How Much Does YouTube Pay You For 1 million Views?

When I first started watching YouTube a few years back, it was pretty uncommon for a video to top the 1 million view mark. But in the past year, reaching 1 million views on YouTube seems to be the new bench mark for many creators.

In fact there is now over 100 videos on YouTube that have topped the billion view mark. Yep, billion with a B.

As I started to see all these videos with millions and billions of views, I started to ask myself how much does YouTube pay you for 1 million views? After a bit of digging, I came up with some results that were quite surprising. So lets jump in!

So How Much Does YouTube Pay You For 1 million Views?

Instead of beating around the bush I’ll jump straight to the chase and tell you on average how much a YouTuber could expect to earn from 1 million views.

On Average: $600-$7000 earnings per 1 million YouTube views

As you can tell from the above figure, the earnings can drastically fluctuate per 1 million views. But why so? Wouldn’t it be a standard rate for a set amount of views? Originally this is what I was thinking. But after some research, the answer is a bit more complex and ingenious than that.

What YouTube and advertisers really care about most when it comes to views on videos is interaction. Simply put, the more interaction or watch time you have on your videos, the more you can earn.

YouTube calculates this through a system called CPM or cost per 1,000 views. Just like the above figure, this can fluctuate between 10 cents and $7 per 1,000 views depending on the quality of the content. But in most cases, the average per 1,000 views for any given YouTuber would be around $1.50 – $3.

Also if you have a hardcore audience like David Dobrik or Casey Neistat who’s viewers which almost every video till the very end. They could expect to earn $3 – $7 per 1,000 views or $3000 – $7000 per 1 million views.

Some other dertiming factors that effect the earnings are

  • Quality of viewers (age, gender, location)
  • Views by geographic location
  • Type of content (viral, informational, news, comedy)
  • How often videos are uploaded
  • Audience watch time
  • Engagement
  • Subscriber count
  • Number of views on mobile vs PC
When looking at it from an advertisers point of view, this completely makes sense as you want your ads to show in front of content that people are eager to watch and will interact with. This means that advertisers are getting the most out of their ad budget as viewers will likely remember the ad.

Another way to put is like watching ads during the Super Bowl and vs late night television. Viewers cant look away during the Super Bowl which means their interaction is at its peak which means advertisers have to pay millions for this opportunity.

On the flip side, you can show long infomercial ads on late night TV for cheap as the interaction is at its smallest.

After looking at this system of how YouTube pays their creators, it seems to work in the creators favour. This means if you are able to create awesome content with high interaction, even if you have a small amount of views, you can still reach high earnings per 1,000 views.

When it comes to YouTubers earning money from their videos, this is only scratching the surface. There are HEAPS of other ways YouTubers/Vloggers can earn income via sponsorships, merchandise, speaking events, affiliate marketing, product endorsements and so much more.
