Indian Railways extend suspension of passenger services till 3 May

The Indian Railways has extended the suspension of its passenger services till 3 May, senior officials said on Tuesday.

They said the decision was taken after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the lock down across the country will be extended till May 3 to fight the corona virus pandemic.

"We have taken the decision keeping in view the extended lock down period. More updates will be available shortly," the official said. Earlier, all passenger services were cancelled till 14 April midnight.

They are using Non AC sleeper class coaches and removing middle berth and making them a optional isolation centers

Travel restrictions to not apply to  international all-cargo operations, says DGCA

The DGCA on Tuesday announced travel and visa restrictions related to COVID-19. The statement said this restriction will not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA. This move came in after Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi extended the nation-wide lockdown period until 3 May in his address.

It had earlier said that all domestic and international scheduled airline operations shall remain suspended until 23:59 hours of 3 May 2020.

Railways offer full refund for trains cancelled till 3 May and for advance bookings

The Indian Railways on Tuesday said full refund would automatically be provided to its online customers for trains cancelled up to May 3, while those who have booked at the counters can take refund till 31 July.

Customers will also get full refunds of their tickets if they are cancelling their advance bookings for trains not yet cancelled, it said.

The railways on Tuesday extended the suspension of all its passenger trains after Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended nationwide lock down till May 3 in view of the corona virus spread.

It also said that no advance reservation of trains tickets, including e-tickets, will be allowed until further orders. However, the facility of online cancellation will remain functional.

All ticket counters for bookings including UTS & PRS , will remain suspended till further orders

No advance reservation of train tickets, including E tickets, till further advice, however, facility of online cancellation will remain functional

In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19 Lockdown, it has been decided that all passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway etc shall continue to remain cancelled till 3rd May 2020.

To ensure the essential supplies in various parts of the country, movement of goods and Parcel trains will continue.

No booking of any type of tickets, including E tickets shall be done till further advice. However, facility of online cancellation will remain functional for ticket bookings.

All counters for ticket booking for UTS & PRS will remain closed till further orders.

Full refund will be given for tickets for the bookings made for the trains cancelled.

Full refund will also be there for those cancelling the advance bookings of tickets for trains not yet cancelled.

As far as trains cancelled upto 3rd May 2020 is concerned, the refunds would be automatically remitted by the Railways online to the customers while those who have booked across the counters, refund can be taken upto 31st July, 2020.
