A 50-year-old woman has been allegedly gang-raped and brutalised in UP's Baudaun, bearing a strong resemblance to the Nirbhaya case. The woman has succumbed to the injuries.

50-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and brutalised in the Ughaiti area of Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district, police have said. The woman had gone to the temple but never returned. The post-mortem report of the deceased confirmed rape, injury in her private parts, and fracture in her legs.

The police have lodged a case in the matter under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code relating to rape and murder. The SHO has been suspended and two accused have been arrested.

The woman worked as an Anganwadi worker and had gone to the temple to offer prayers on the evening of January 3.

According to the son of the deceased woman, the priest of the temple along with two others had come to the woman's house with her body and left before they could be asked anything.

When asked, the priest said the woman had fallen into a well and on hearing her cries for help, he along with two others went towards the well. He did not have any number of the woman's relatives and left her at her house.

The family of the victim has accused the priest of rape and murder. They have also accused the police of a delay in filing an FIR in the case. The police were informed about the case on Monday morning. The police sent the body for post-mortem. The post-mortem report confirmed raped and found injuries in the woman's private parts and fracture in her legs.

The police then filed a case of rape and murder and three people have been named. SSP, Badaun, Sankalp Sharma informed that four teams have been formed to nab the accused and assured that the culprits would soon be arrested.

Majority of rape cases are generally not reported in states like UP / Bihar because the police are even worse .

There is no hope of justice if the perpetrators are from the dominant castes

Gang-raped woman dies in U.P.'s Budaun; priest among three booked

A 50-year-old woman died after she was gang-raped, allegedly by a priest and his two aides, in a village in Ughaiti area of Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, on January 3 night. However, an FIR was registered only on January 5 after a post-mortem confirmed severe injuries to the private parts of the deceased.

Her son told reporters that she used to go to the village temple every evening. “On Sunday, she didn’t return. Around 11.30 p.m., the priest and his two aides brought her home in a car. They said she fell into the dry well on the temple premises. She was bleeding profusely and soon died. Before we could ask anything, the three left,” he said.

He alleged that priest Satya Narayan and his aides, Jaspal and Vedram, were lying as they didn’t take her to hospital. “We approached the police as we felt somebody had raped her,” he said.

Locals said a video of the priest saying that the she fell into the well was circulating in the local media but the police could not nab him. They said the dry well was in an isolated area and not on the way to the temple that somebody could fall in it.

“The SHO also believed the theory of the accused till the post-mortem report revealed that she had been brutalised,” said social activist Shafi Ahmed.

Sankalp Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, Budaun, said on Wednesday an FIR had been registered under sections 376D and 302 of the IPC after the medical report confirmed rape. “One of the accused has been arrested and the SHO had been suspended for the delay,” he said.
