Chicago average 125- 130k + benefits

with that experience. Don’t fall for false expectations like 160k never gonna happen.

ne case lo benfits levu kabatti  calculate to average salary and ask.

Yeah exactly, without benefits I'm confused on what compensation would make my move wise

Hi Guys,

With my current employer I'm actually making decent money (120K/annum)+ good benefits. Location is NC.

I got another offer in chicago which pays only salary. They asked me how much I'm expecting to go work for them.

Whats the avg salary I should expect for 7+ years exp in chicago? I'm confused because they don't offer any benefits.

P.S: I didn't apply for the position. My old manager here in NC is working for that company now and he initiated this thing.

if you are getting 120K then you should be asking 125K for Chicago provided when the benefits are same.. since you are not getting the same benefits we can not compare apple to apple... Your new salary would be

125k+ Cost of the Benefits you are getting in SC  add 10% to this amount.

Unless you get atleast 10pc bonus or some RSU , just joining FTE for paid leaves and insurance is not worth it

Remember more the benefits , more the company values the employee and more the growth

1. Compare the expenses at both places. I feel this website gives a good idea

https://livingwage.mit.edu/

Chicago - https://livingwage.mit.edu/metros/16980

Charlotte - https://livingwage.mit.edu/metros/16740

There is about a 3-5% increase in expenses in chicago area compared to Charlotte.

2. Property taxes are high around 2.24%, almost 3 times that of North carolina 0.84%. But the public schools are top notch in chicago suburbs. If you look at the top 10 public school districts in the US, 4 of them are from chicago suburbs.

https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-school-districts/

3. Income tax, Illinois - flat 4.95%;NC - Flat 5.25%

4. Most importantly you need to factor the cost difference between new job benefits and the current benefits.

5. Weather - There will be a lot of snow days in chicago area starting from oct until feb. I don't know about the weather in NC. Summers are good in chicago, not a lot of natural wonders to go around but the city of chicago to go around during summer.

I feel 125-130K plus any difference in reasonable ask.
