September 1: Arrived late night in Anchorage. Rented a car and stayed overnight in Anchorage.

 

September 2: Did some shopping at Anchorage Walmart and headed to Seward. Its about 2.5 hrs scenic drive. It was windy and cold though.

 

Seward is a beautiful small town. It has picturesque mountains. We saw people fishing in a small river near the harbor. We were amazed to see a school of fish (salmon) up so close. Seward has a safeway store. Seward downtown is beautiful with lot of food options.We skipped the aquarium.

  

September 3: We were supposed to take a glacier cruise in to kenai fjords but it was cancelled due to weather. Other cruise "resurrection bay cruise" was operating but we only wanted to go on a kenai fjords cruise.

 

With cruise cancelled, We headed to exit glacier which is about 12 miles from Seward. It was a 1 mile moderate hike to reach the end point to see the glacier. We enjoyed the hike. Optionally there is a very good view point just before the entrance if you want to skip the hike.

 

After the exit glacier, We headed to Alaska Wild life conservatory ($15 fee). We saw Elk, Bison, Bears etc.

 

Stayed in Girdwood overnight at Aleska resort.

 

September 4: Drove to whittier from Girdwood for a glacier cruise. Its about 40 mins drive. but make sure you see the timings of the tunnel to reach whittier. We took 26 glacier cruise by Phillips cruises. It was around 5 hour long cruise. We saw lot of glaciers, water falls and sea life while cruising.

 

Optionally if you think its expensive or long hours. Consider taking 1 hr portage glacier cruise from portage.

 

Drove back to Girdwood and stayed overnight at Aleska resort.

 

September 5: It was raining. We headed towards Anchorage, had lunch in Anchorage and headed to Glacier View (Glenn Highway). The drive was very scenic with fall colors. Stayed overnight at sheep mountain lodge.

 

September 6: Visited Matanuska Glacier which I think is very beautiful where you can actually touch/walk on the glacier. Different tour companies offer hiking tours (MICA Guides). We didn't take any tours but just visited the glacier up close ($30 entrance fee)

 

Headed back to Anchorage, Had dinner and reached airport to catch the flight.
