I won't poke nose in Telangana politics: Jagan

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday categorically declared that he was interested in doing politics in Telangana because he wanted a cordial relationship with the neighbouring state.

Jagan made the statement while participating in a public meeting at Rayadurgam in Anantapur district. His statement assumes significance in the wake of his sister Y S Sharmila launching her new political outfit – YSR Telangana party – in Hyderabad later in the evening.

“YSR Congress party in general and I, in particular, do not want disputes with any of our neighbouring states. We always want to maintain cordial relations with them. We strongly wish that the people in the neighbouring states should prosper as much as the people of our state do,” Jagan said.

He went on to say: “If the people of Andhra Pradesh and its neighbours have to prosper, there should be friendly relations with us and that of the neighbouring states without any disputes.”

Stating that Andhra Pradesh has been striving for maintaining good relations with Telangana, Jagan said this was the reason why he was not showing interest in the politics of Telangana.

“Jagan did not poke his nose in the Telangana politics and will never do it in future. Similarly, Jagan will not interfere in Karnataka or Tamil Nadu politics,” he explained and added that he would like to find an amicable solution to the present water disputes.

He expressed regrets over the abusive language being used by some Telangana ministers and MLAs and the criticism from Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu over Krishna water disputes between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

He wondered what Naidu was doing when the Telangana state was constructing unauthorised projects like Dindi and Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation schemes on Krishna river.

“Were you grazing donkeys during your tenure, Mr Naidu?” he asked.

Jagan asserted that his government was constructing Rayalaseema lift irrigation scheme only to draw water from Krishna river at Srisailam even if water level goes down to below 800 ft, as no water could be drawn from Pothireddypadu till the level reaches 881 ft.
